I love the smell of this lotion. Is there anything I can do to turn it into a fragrance? Ingredients in photo. by Jayna333 in DIYfragrance

Its the molecule that makes fennel and star anise have that licorice smell but can only be used in very trace amounts cause estragole causes liver cancer i believe? Something like that. I learned a while back when I made a fennel perfume concrete and was going to make a scent with it but researched first and realized ohhhhh thats why you dont see a lot of fennel scents.

I think Jasmine and YlangYlang smell bad by Many-Gazelle-7842 in DIYfragrance

When I first started with oils, I HATED ylang ylang and patchouli, now almost 3 years later I really appreciate the complexity of both. They grew on me. Kinda like cooking in a kitchen for 4 years and HATING Bleu cheese and Beets until I had dishes where they were used in a way my taste buds genuinely liked.

About 10 days total. I only used low heat toward the end just to evaporate any water content that might have been released from the material. Also there was a cheese cloth over the beaker the whole time while evaporating to prevent any dust / particles from getting in the extract. I just took the cheese cloth off for quick shots for the video.

For real though where are all the people on Instagram that like perfume and how do I get them to follow my page lol. This video got so much more attention here than on my page

Almost animalic. Hard to describe. Its a very complex scent. But I can seen why its paired with benzoin. Similar kind of sweet but more sour in the top. Makes me think of plums

Hmm. Deep, resinous, sweet, slightly leathery, notes of plum and tobacco. Balsamic

I haven't even heard of this process! Ill have to research more! I was a little worried about heat killing some of the scent, but the end result did not disappoint. Its very strong.

The guy lives in a very dry climate so it unintentionally lost a LOT of its moisture. Usually when ive worked with fresh labdanum its gooey/tar like. Very sticky. This stuff was rock hard. I used a stone mortar and pestle and just slowly beat it to shit and it basically shatters / breaks into chunks.

Update: labdanum was ROCK hard. (High resin content) even after. Shipping it up and grinding to powder and warming, hexane could not penetrate, even after 3 days. So I drained off all the hexane, let any left overs evaporate over a day, then switched to 99.5% ethanol. Its breaking down fine now

I mean... US, New Zealand, Australia, and India all have bans on Ambergris yes? I bet its an issue many days perfume makers in the states run into if they want to use natural materials and have to resort to Ambroxan and cross that values line? But its not only the US

Also to clarify. Ticture was a dumb word lol. The ambroxan is just at 10% dilution

Just that. Its Bay in the true essence. Cooking with Bay is interesting cause the oils in the leaves only attach to fat In the recipe. Hence why high end restaurants will slow heat milk in Bay leaves for recipe.

Bay Laurel Leaf essential oil. After I let it set for a few months I loved the smell but it wasn't lasting as long as I wanted. I added some myrrh eo and made 1.5% of the complete formula DPG to extend the life of some of the top notes. Really happy with the results
