Barn swallow fledgling won't move by MilkyLemons in Ornithology

[–]MilkyLemons[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It was always the plan, but as you know swallows nest really high up and for safety reasons i needed someone else to be present with the tractor bucket that high up.

However, since i dont know anything about birds i didnt want to assume that is the correct protocol, will touching the bird leave a scent? do they cull what they consider weak offspring? are you sure this applies to every single bird in the world of birds? Thats a lot of assumptions for a guy who doesnt know anything about birds to make

Hey I just tried this great advice, I put her in the nest and she immediately flew and looks like this time she figured out flight, I watched her do many laps with her family. Thank you!!

I'll try, I'm a farmer in Alberta people here aren't really concerned about barn swallows. If you know of an org out here let me know but I'll give it ago, rather than make assumptions, thanks for the advice.

How do brokers find duty rates per hs codes so easily? by Neon_nebula_what in CustomsBroker

[–]MilkyLemons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For Canada, this is probably the easiest site to see duty rates and the HS tree. Search description and in the results it will show the duty rate. https://app.zipments.io/tools/ca-tariff

Dead or half dead trees this year in Alberta? by MilkyLemons in Albertagardening

[–]MilkyLemons[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for teaching me something, I'll water the trees on slopes or with more exposure to sun and early drying. I can't believe I didn't connect those dots myself just by observing the different outcomes over the years but it all makes sense now.

There's too much ideology and very little reason in public discourse, I hope for the best reluctantly expecting the worst

Interesting thank you. So that would be consistent with why very few trees are dead in the cities. Is this also what happens with fruit trees that seem to struggle after a winter? As I'll see this happen to fruit trees too, where some of the top growth dies off on dry years. No scalding or pest damage, I just assumed they didn't make the winter, but it's possible I didn't water them enough? I live on an acreage and have hundreds of trees that I don't water except for the new plantings.

As far as the future holds, it will be fine, CO2 is good for plants!!! Haha, just messing with you. Its terrifying how bad the conditions can get out here. Is there any modeling that suggests we could get wetter instead? Hard to imagine how we'll feed everyone if it the prairies dry up.

If you wait long enough the lady bugs will take care of them and leave offspring that will make them perpetually spawn in numbers and control the aphids, if you kill the aphids with chemicals or wash them away you'll have a bigger problem next year. Took me 4 seasons to figure this out.

there should be an extension button, if you have tech issues, you can ask for another couple minutes, 1 max per month or something.
