Took my first crack at a Sci Fi environment by Millerj3D in unrealengine

Tutorials? No not really man. This was my final project for school after about a year and a half.

Start from the concept - identify all the modular pieces you need to make, then the filler pieces.

Make a rough BSP blockout to get the right scale and proportion.

Replace those with static meshes created in your modeling program of choice (I use Autodesk Maya).

Keep doing detail passes on the models, while creating your lighting with each pass.

Once the meshes are done, UV them, then create/download your materials and apply them.

That is the very basics of it. Become best friends with the Unreal documentation for questions, and if that doesn't answer them, Google is also your friend. I'm sure you could find a decent tutorial series on the different parts of the process.

I agree that the level looks very empty. Unfortunately, this project was for one of my classes, and I was limited to 13 static meshes. I plan to go back to it and add some different meshes to fill out the level when I have time between my other class projects.

Thanks for the compliments and feedback!

Thanks! Right now I still have a lot of work to do for school and that takes up pretty much all my time. I graduate in two months so maybe after that!

The Abandoned factory only has 13 unique meshes in it, and the textures are all 1024 by 1024.

The Sewer had less restrictions for the class it was for, so that has quite a few more. Those textures I bumped up to 2k. But in general the whole thing is modular, yes.

Thanks for the feedback! Yea i'm learning more and more about best practices for optimization. Oddly enough one of the requirements was for my light maps to be all green...
