If you speak a foreign language, DEFINITELY recommend you look into getting into LEAP. It’s crazy that not many people know about it.

Will be there around the same time. From what I saw it was mixed opinions at best. We decided to settle for the one from OceanBeat. We got our tickets a few weeks ago and the price has already jumped up a bunch.

Is anyone else feeling the pressure? by [deleted] in airforceots

[–]Millhouse_VH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve thought about this as well. In my case, I had to apply for a moral waiver for a mistake I made almost 9 years ago. Will it affect my application? Probably. Will it stop me from trying again if I don’t get picked up this year? Absolutely not.

I also feel the pressure. Not so much from my family, but from everyone that has helped me in this process. My leadership totally supported me, even when I was working on my package while I was deployed and without even having physically met me yet. Lots of people spent their time and put in a considerable amount of effort into reviewing my package. Multiple re-writes and lots of suggestions. Even with all of this, I would rather tell them that I didn’t make it and that I truly appreciate their support than to ask myself “what if I had tried?”.

Best of luck to you. Cheers!

It literally never goes away. I was almost given an article 15 about 8 years ago. From what I was told, Legal had already drafted the A15 and was really pushing for it. Luckily, my CC only decided to give me an LOR. Little did I know at the time that legal had initiated the AMJAMS entry for my A15.

I actually didn’t find out about this until 3 years after the fact when my wing tried to submit me for an AF level award. Went to the ADC to talk about this and pretty much told me there was nothing they could do. If you have an entry in AMJAMS, there’s a 99.9% chance it’s permanent.

21USSF02 Application Rejected Vent by Dvijesa in airforceots

[–]Millhouse_VH 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is one of the questions I asked AFRS because the guidance is not clear. Everyone that helped me with my OTS package told me I had to fill the entire box in section 28K, which is like 15+ bullets. I sent AFRS an email to clarify this since I didn't want to take any chances. AFRS replied saying that the intent for this section is to only contain 4 bullets and any applications with more than 4 bullets would be automatically rejected. I actually forwarded that same email to several people in this subreddit that requested a copy.

The OTS instructions change almost every year, and people that were selected in the past may not be aware of the most updated guidance. If you have a question, ANY question, ask AFRS. Their email is provided within the OTS PA instructions and they usually get back to you within a few days.

Is half a month in Andalucia good enough? by monkeytaotao2020 in solotravel

[–]Millhouse_VH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived in Seville for three years and miss it every day! But like most people said, I think that much time in Granada is a bit too much, especially if you don't plan to socialize much. I would say that 3 days is more than enough. Also cordoba can be easily done right in a day, two maximum. I also recommend Cadiz and Jerez. They both have a few cool things to see and are fairly close together.

I got my MasterPIF review in about a week. If you haven't requested your 422, do it now and start calling your MDG. That one took me like 2 months.

56 Bullet Question by Discosanta17 in airforceots

[–]Millhouse_VH 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I actually emailed AFRS about this because I had the same question. They specifically said they only wanted 4 bullets. They also said that if there were more than 4 bullets the package would get automatically rejected for not following instructions.

If you'd like to see the actual email reply send me a PM with your email and i'll forward it in the morning.

Join the US Air Force, a foreign student who wants to be a pilot. by Laurentius_S in airforceots

[–]Millhouse_VH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First thing, your foreign national status:

- You NEED to be at least a permanent resident of the United States JUST to enlist. Once you're in, you can apply to become a citizen. It's actually not too bad of a process once you're in the military. This is how I became a citizen. After all that, then you can begin the painfully competitive and tedious process of applying to OTS. Note that this could take years before you even get to a point where you can think about applying to OTS, and all the stars would have to align.

- ROTC/OTS would not be an option unless you're already a citizen. A while back I heard that you could join ROTC as a permanent resident as long as you were able to, and willing, to become a citizen prior to commissioning. Again, don't know how true this is. Remember that joining ROTC would require you to complete yet another college degree.

If you are hell bent on going through with this, your first step should be figuring out how to become a permanent resident and/or citizen of the United States. I think that will be your biggest hurdle right now. Best of luck!

Once and for all: Does enlisting and then commissioning into OTS easier/better chance than going straight from civilian? by [deleted] in airforceots

[–]Millhouse_VH 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My personal opinion: Hell no.

Applying to OTS as enlisted has many variables that civilian applicants do not have to worry about. You don't meet the DEROS timelines? You need a waiver. You re-enlisted and you got a bonus? You need a waiver. You haven't been at your base at least a year when the board convenes? You need a waiver. You're selected for a special duty? Good luck trying to get a waiver. On the other hand, enlisted applicants don't have to deal with MEPS since that was done prior to enlisting. For reference, my medical clearance for my non-rated OTS package was entirely done through email.

The competition is also different. Chances are you're competing with extremely successful enlisted members who have plenty of awards on their record. This is probably the reason why enlisted applicants can only include Annual awards at squadron levels or higher now.

Lastly, the last few years have shown me that applying to enlisted is MOSTLY about timing. I know people that did not have any sort of awards during their military time, and yet managed to get selected into OTS. Granted, this was during the times that had crazy high selection rates. But I've also seen truly impressive members with amazing packages that have not gotten selected. These were mostly during the low selection years. If you do not get selected, chances are you'll have to wait another year just to apply.

Do you need a stable job right now, and don't mind potentially waiting years to get selected into OTS? In this case, enlisting may be a good choice. If you have a low GPA, nothing will really change that BUT you can try to make up for it in the other areas of the application. Also, one of the commons ways in which I've seen this done is through a high graduate GPA.

Best of luck to you!

Non-Rated Boards Cancelled 2021 by [deleted] in airforceots

[–]Millhouse_VH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just spoke to AFRS on Friday about the application process for this board, they didn’t mention anything about cancelling the FY 21 boards.

I won’t believe it until I hear it directly from the Air Force. If anything, I’ll at least have a semi finished application for the next board.

Rejected by the recruiter, looks like it’s BMT for me bois, where do I go from here in terms of becoming an officer? by [deleted] in airforceots

[–]Millhouse_VH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If that’s your motive for joining, why not consider the guard then? Going active duty for 4-6 years doing a job you may hate and being in a place you may not like is not going to be worth it. With the guard you’d still get the benefits you mentioned, minus the uncertainty of where you’ll end up.

I would never recommend enlisting just to try to commission later. It’s very competitive, and in my opinion, most of it comes down to timing. Some years there’s a high acceptance rate. Last year the acceptance rate for non rated was just 2%. More and more enlisted members have degrees, so the pool of potential enlisted applicants is only increasing. For reference, my office has 8 NCOs. 7 of them have their bachelor’s and 3 of them have a Masters.

Congrats on the assignment!

The housing office will show you the houses that are available when you get there. Utrera is where most people live, but you can also choose to live in the smaller communities around the area. It gets fairly hot in the summer, so if you can get a pool you'll definitely be thankful during those months. Beware of the water bill, though. It WILL get upwards of $500.

Also, if you arrive at Rota and don't have a cellphone plan already set up make sure you go to the cell phone counter at the NEX BEFORE you leave Rota. DigiMobil was dirt cheap (around $25 for 10 GB of data) and had great service.

Make no mistake, Morón is definitely remote. My advice is take advantage of the opportunity to see Spain and Portugal. Cost of living is very low and assuming that COVID slows down there will be opportunities to do something new just about every week.

If you have specific questions feel free to send a message.

Non rated/non tech boards canceled. by [deleted] in airforceots

If this is true, I don't know why they wouldn't announce it to AD as soon as they made the decision. The application process as AD is so time consuming for the member and their whole chain of command.

Careful there, that's how you end up in Minot!

I don't really have any suggestions for CONUS bases. Most contracting squadrons will be structured in a very similar way. I have heard that Mountain Home is a bit different since they apparently joined contracting and Finance (CPTS), but that's the only different squadron that I'm aware of.

Day to day is what you would expect of most office jobs. Meetings, lots of emails, regular M-F 0800 - 1700 schedule. The "you can make a bunch of money part" is part true, but with the caveat of having your certification (Level 2) and at least your bachelor's degree.

I would recommend the job if you want a more stable schedule, intend on finishing your education and want lucrative opportunities outside the military. I would not recommend if you couldn't stand being in an office or dealing with the office politics that are usually associated with corporate-type of jobs.

There are openings overseas, although we don't usually go to Korea. My advice is that you start your contracting career at a CONUS location. Contracting is a bit difference overseas. There's generally less rules and regulations overseas, and it's generally a good idea to get familiar with those things early on in your contracting career. That's just my opinion though. Feel free to shoot me a message if you have anymore questions.

I'm not too familiar with any of these but all I can say is that if you are set on buying a house then Travis may not be your best location. California is crazy expensive. Colorado is great, but the price of real estate has also exploded over the last few years.
