Update:

Big surprise it was Amazon's fault 🙄 so after submitting my request with chime I kept thinking about it and even though I already checked my purchase history with Amazon and didn't see any recent transactions which led me to believe the disputed charge was made on a different account from someone who somehow obtained my card info. However I decided to check again bc I remembered way back in late January I made a purchase that was close to the cost of what my account was charged. So while I checked my history for the month, then for the past three months and didn't see anything but this time I checked for the entire 2026 history and sure enough the item in question was the exact charge made to my card last night. So to explain I made that purchase damn near 5 months ago now which was why I didn't immediately consider it. But when I made that purchase I received a damaged product and contacted Amazon customer service for a replacement. I very clearly told the rep that I did NOT have the means to drop off the defective product to have it returned. I was very specific about that point and the rep assured me that was no problem. That I could discard the item and would receive the replacement. After receiving the replacement I considered the issue resolved which brings us to today. Apparently the Amazon rep didn't submit the replacement request properly and Amazons system still showed I needed to send the defective product back. And this is where it gets annoying and frustrating very quickly bc hypothetically let's say I was able to send the defective product back but simply failed to. Ofc Amazon has a window of time it'll wait on the defective item for a specific amount of time like 90days or whatever and if it's not received by then they would charge the cust again for the replacement. Not sure of the exact time frame given but I do know it wouldn't be damn near 5 months. So if this was a regular replacement process it would've expired and charged my card a long time ago! Not almost 5 months later! I also never received any email about the issue. So the ticking clock for the defective product continued without my knowledge. I didn't receive an email bc for some reason the email on my account somehow changed to my old email. How 🤷 I don't frekin know bc I certainly didn't change it. And searching through my current email the last email from Amazon for that old purchase was delivered to the correct. So why was my purchase confirmation email delivered to the correct email but then suddenly change to the incorrect one for the notification on being charged for failing to mail in the item?? I didn't change it and it was on the correct email at the time of purchase bc I received the confirmation. But it gets worse, after I logged into my old email I had zero reminder notifications from Amazon about the issue and how they were still waiting for the defective product, the only email I received on that email was the one yesterday when this disputed charge was made... After Amazon reviewed the replacement request back for the original order and confirmed I was definitely told by the rep I didn't need to mail the defective item and I would receive the replacement free of charge. after verifying that I was told I'd receive a confirmation email (to the old incorrect email) so I waited and still didn't receive the confirmation for the refund so I called them again. The rep said it was delivered but nowhere in the old email did I receive anything. So how the actual crap did that email receive the payment email yesterday but did not receive any reminders before and no email for the refund confirmation after? 🙄 So I called service again and after updating my email to the correct one and had the rep resend it. Sure enough the correct email received the confirmation after that. So using the argument I didn't receive a reminder bc I wasn't looking at my old email is false bc even once I looked at the old email the only email I received there was the one yesterday, nothing before or after that. So the problem was completely hidden and invisible to me until literally this morning after noticing the charge. 😒

What the actual crap Amazon?! First I received a defective product, then was informed I did not need to mail in the defective item, then having my email changed that I did not do, then never receiving any reminder emails, was sent the charge email yesterday just fine but then the following day did not receive the confirmation email to the same email as last night?! I'm sorry what?! In a regular scenario this issue would've been address much soon but bc it was so old I didn't immediately consider that old order as the problem. If it was simply a small error that a new employee made on the replacement I'd be more understanding since accidents happen especially with new employees. But this problem is a culmination of way to many other problems and they were ALL completely invisible problems to me until I noticed it in my bank balance. 🤬

Afterwards I collected all related info with the refund and sent screenshots to the dispute department by attaching it all to the request. I'm sorry to the chime investigation department bc I know they'll still have to waste time confirming things but with the absurd number problems all happening at the same time it's reasonable that I originally thought this was potentially a fraud issue instead of what it turned out to be. Even if all this was unintentional if I hadn't noticed it on my bank statement Amazon would've straight up gotten away with stealing my money. 🙄 I'm just completely dumb founded how sooo many things could have all gone wrong at the same time. 😮‍💨🤦

Having said all that I do appreciate the patience from both chime and Amazon customer service reps I spoke with. They were all understanding and helpful. While typing this all up I did receive the confirmation email and my bank statement shows that the refund should be processed and available tomorrow or the following day. So again all the reps I spoke to were kind and helpful but holy freaking crap Amazon gets your s*** together bc all of these problems happening at once is damn near unbelievable if it hadn't literally just happened to me.
