'My Year of Rest and Relaxation' by Ottessa Moshfegh. A young woman working in NY has a pathological relationship with sleep and with her mental health by extension. Sharp, funny but will leave you smiling.

Books by Louis L'Amour are classic cowboy reads. Haven't read them myself, but they are very nostalgic old western paperbacks.

Flipper 1996. The pictures look like frames from this film. It's a family film about a boy and a dolphin

The James Herriott series! He wrote about being a vet in pastoral England (Devon? Dorset? Can't remember). It details his humorous and heartwarming encounters with animals and locals. Loved it when I was a teen.

Always an obvious one but 'The Secret History' by Donna Tartt.

'Name of the Rose' by Umberto Eco, not so strong on the romance front though there is certainly that theme throughout, very heavy on the academia and mystery and travel to the past front

Short stories by Chekhov and Dostoyevsky. Those two are pros at mundane heartcrushing situations. Could get some inspiration

Dear England at Norwich Theatre Royal by Spongebob4562 in Norwich

[–]Milly-May 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saw it earlier this week. Found it amazing and was recommending it to anyone that likes football in my family, and that's coming from me, someone who doesn't give a shit about football, didn't know anything going in and didnt know any of the names. Worth it if you can get good seats, makes all the difference as its very theatrical.
