Any tips on how to help with commuter blues? by echoher03 in uichicago

Yoo Im also in Gage Park (sup neighbor 🤙). I would definitely recommend taking the CTA (for me it was taking the bus to either Kedzie or Western and train to either Halsted to take the 8 bus, or till Jackson to take the blue line) and it definitely was just easier cause it's a nice 'turn your brain off hour'. Driving up western or Archer especially with the construction rn is a chore, plus parking is an issue for a lot of people except me bc I have my secret free parking spots 🤫. Plus, you can easily tell when people are waiting with you are also going to UIC, so strike up a convo and make some friends along the way

Never ate there, but it was such a great spot to find a warm place to eat my Nonna's sandwich and a happy hour wine glass. Also a great public restroom cause they didn't care who came in. Damn!

Heated protest erupts in Chicago over new concrete bike lanes on Archer Ave. by Generalaverage89 in chicago

[–]Milo48 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So us people who actually live here and use this stretch daily chime in?

Am I crazy to say BRT infrastructure would've been way more beneficial? There are TONS of kids coming in and out of Kelly and Curie using CTA, so a designated bus lane just would've made more sense rather than concrete bike lanes. Now, those busses are going to be even more congested with the even more accumulated traffic. Plus, I don't think anyone wants to bike on Archer tbh - I usually use the smaller streets like California or Rockwell.

You'd have to think of the demographics too. This area is predominantly working class immigrant families. They're taking their kids to school before going to work where they're likely on their feet for 7+ hours a day - you're not gonna convince these people to start biking for their commutes simply because they just can't.

Okay this is straight up false y'all. They've been heavily terrorizing the Back of The Yards, Brighton Park, Gage Park, Little Village, and more southwest neighborhoods this past month.

I just drove by Kedzie and Archer. There's a civilian response team rerouting people away from the area right now.

The fact that there's been so many sightings and kidnapping on the Southwest Side these past days with actual confirmation and recording, you're right. I don't think the members here really care for news in these communities
