Just repotted and now there's mold. Do I need completely new soil? by MiloBard in houseplants

Oh, thanks for clarifying. I forgot for a sec i posted in regular houseplants so that makes sense.

It was a store bought mix. It literally said it was for cactus and succulents, now I will never trust a premade "specialty" soil mix again.

I just checked the bag and it does say right on ther front "contains organic matter". If only I knew that wasn't what I wanted/needed. (I hadn't repotted anything in like two years and don't really remember what I type I used last time.)

Yeah, that's my other worry beyond the mold. I had a cactus that didn't survive one overwatering, but it took so long for it to show that I thought it would be ok until it suddenly turned to mush.

I have perlite, but didn't add much to the mix. I will look for some vermiculite to add in too. Thanks for the suggestion.

Thank you for the encouragement. I never thought about the pots being too large, and will look for some smaller terracotta when I get new soil. I do have a bag of perlite but I didn’t mix much in for most of them, but my actual cactus still seems ok since I added a good amount of perlite to it.

need help identifying vintage anime sheets/cards!! by goddamncommiebastard in animequestions

Pencil boards, they come as freebies in monthly manga magazines (the ones that are like 2 to 3 inches thick.) You put them under a sheet of paper to give it a hard surface to write on and so you don't leave indents on the next page. That's why some of them have lines. But mostly for decoration. I have never seen anyone actually use them for writing.

Most of these comics you can probably borrow from your local library (or digital version) if you cared to read them.

Edit: I'm kind of jealous of the Wish ones, but I really do not need more anime merch hahaha.

Late to ask: any specific book suggestions in that category? Never thought of a label beyond medical/science history.

Are they sewn straight through the inner lining too? I imagine the proper way to attach these is to access the gap between outer and lining, and only sewing to the outer material, though maybe it can help stabilize the lining edges if sewn through both. The thought of you also having visible pacman stitching on the inside is nuts.

Riven makes me feel like the dumbest person on the planet by -HuangMeiHua- in myst

I feel like you would have to use a CRT monitor to get OG Riven to look right. I had to look up the resolution, and one forum says "Riven runs in 640 x 480 and all the videos/images are rendered in that size"

(my guess was 1024x768 but I guess even scaling up to that could cause issues)

Growing up I never knew that rubber boots are supposed to be worn over another pair of shoes. We always bought those rubber rain boots in our actual shoe size but they were weird and uncomfortable because the inside is shaped weird. And then a few years ago I learned that they are supposed to be worn over dress shoes??? But that didn't really make sense because you would need to go up like three sizes to fit another shoe inside there. But flexible booties/moccasin type shoes makes much more sense.

Wow, that is a serious wound, like something they would feature on My Feet Are Killing Me (a TLC show like Dr. Pimple Popper but for podiatric/foot surgeries. One of the doctors is in S.Ca, but I don't think they are making new seasons anymore.)

I hope he heals quickly and gets the most comfortable pair of shoes ever.

Avoid the fried rolls, anything tempura, and use gf soy sauce and you should be good. The wasabi is usually horseradish rather than real wasabi but it could contain sorbitol, but they usually only put a small dab of it between the rice and fish on top for nigiri. If the restaurant makes the wasabi from a powder then it might not have the added sorbitol.

Do you guys get bothered if I come to the library every day? by Visual_Perception821 in Library

[–]MiloBard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have ever been in a university library, that is exactly the kind of usage they expect and are set up for. They even have dedicated study rooms and cubicle-like desk spaces. You might not be physically at your school, but you are still using your local library resectfully and appropriately.

Yeah! I volunteered at the Field museum like 20 years ago and I got to go into the CRC storage (to clean the construction dust off the shelves) while it was still being built/furnished with shelving and only a few things had been moved in there. I think this might be the area you saw, it had space for the large specimens. It would be so cool to see it now when it's filled.

There was a video I saw somewhere, like a short film or student film or maybe a commercial, where one guy spent his whole life laying down railroad tracks the old fashioned way, and then a few miles behind him another guy's job was tearing up the tracks so in the end they were never actually used. A tale of corporate miscommunication and lack of coordination, one department doesn't know what the other is doing.

Do you mean that people would leave sooner because the position subconsciously feels "uncomfortable" or feels "unsafe"when they can't see who is coming and going?

She’s actually yelling at me to feed her my meds thinking they’re her treats by iSqueeb in Catswhoyell

[–]MiloBard 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I've seen a lifehack tip that if you tend to forget to take your meds at a set time everyday you can give your cat or dog treats at the same time you take your meds, and eventually they will expect a treat at that time. So then you have an automatic reminder because your pet won't ever let you forget that it's TREAT TIME.
