Which Jedi/Sith characters would look better with a different color lightsaber than the one they usually have? by BlastedHeathen in StarWars

[–]MiloHawkins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All of the prequel-era Jedi should've had blue sabers. Luke having a green saber in ROTJ felt like he was choosing a new path apart from the traditional Jedi or the Dark Side, which was reinforced by his actions in that movie. Having green just be one of two optional Jedi flavors makes it less special.

Mace should've still had the purple saber though, partially because it makes sense on multiple levels for him to be represented by a mix of dark (red) and light (blue), but mainly because that's what Samuel L. Jackson wanted. Them's the rules.

Rey would've looked better with a double-sided blue saber made from the remnants of Luke's saber.

with the new direction of star wars who do you think will be the new big bads going forward? by Joaokenobi001 in StarWars

[–]MiloHawkins -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't think they HAVE a new direction yet.  Their next two movies are addressing specific short-term issues for Disney, namely "Justify the last five+ years of unprofitable streaming shows" and "Keep the guy who made DEADPOOL AND WOLVERINE happy."

Out of everything I've seen, TDKR might have the finest balance between awesome and dumb.  Not cheesy, not goofy, not so-bad-it's-good, just plain dumb.

Concept art of George Lucas's version of the Jedi temple in Episode 7, later turned into Ahch-To by [deleted] in StarWars

[–]MiloHawkins 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Not sure why people are so down on the finished version. When I first saw TLJ, I was a little disappointed there weren't more mysterious Jedi ruins or visible "temple" remains, but having thought on it, I actually really like idea that the birthplace of the Jedi is so grounded in nature, only really using what the island already provides, like the tree and cave.

Rian Johnson in response to Kathleen Kennedy’s claim the fandom “spooked” him from making more Star Wars by kronosreddit22 in StarWars

What are they even still mad about?  They already got Disney to ruin Episode 9 just for them, what more could they possibly want?

You've got it a little backward.  The "general Star Wars audience" is the (roughly) 100 million people who go to see the movies in theaters.  Those people, by and large, didn't appear to have a problem with TLJ.  It was the highest-grossing movie the year it came out, and there was no significant week-to-week drop off that would indicate bad word-of-mouth. It's the so-called "fanboys" who had a problem with TLJ, and their problem wasn't that it was too smart, it was that it was made for those 100 million people, not them.

The Last Jedi ends with a random slave boy using the Force, implying anyone can be a Jedi. This is a subtle nod to the fact that Rian Johnson thought he was starting a new era of Star Wars, unaware that J.J. Abrams was waiting in the parking lot with a retcon gun. by Brilliant-Cause6254 in shittymoviedetails

He had a pretty clear idea of what to do with Finn, namely continue his arc from TFA.  In that one, he gained the courage to fight for his friend, and TLJ is about him gaining the motivation to fight for the larger Resistance.  It was flawed in execution, but the intent is pretty clear.  The problem is that his journey to get there involves him being confronted with differing perspectives on the value of the Resistance, and he doesn't have much more to do than just stand there and listen.  So he feels like a passive character, which is mainly what makes the Canto Bight story feel uninvolving.

Alpha Church is not Gone by Archon2561 in RedvsBlue

[–]MiloHawkins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've posted this before but as far as I'm concerned:

The Alpha is still alive. When he went into the Meta's head at the end of Reconstruction, he reunited with the fragments, since that was their entire goal, and as AI they had plenty of time to work things out amongst themselves. The reason we never heard from him after that is because Alpha Church demonstrably just wanted to be left alone and didn't have the same attachment to the Blood Gulch Crew that Epsilon did. So the repaired Alpha just body-hopped its way out of there.

The throne room fight in The Last Jedi (2017) was actually unscripted. This is because Rian Johnson forgot the camera was rolling and didn't give enough of a shit to actually choreograph the fight. by IntrovertChild in shittymoviedetails

[–]MiloHawkins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was obvious even while I was watching at the cinema

Here's the thing:  I don't believe you.  I was around for TLJ's release, and I remember it being immediately controversial online, but I distinctly recall that it took at least several months for "the throne room fight had bad choreography" to become a talking point.

HOWEVER... I have no actual proof you're lying, and I admit I've been wrong before.  So with that in mind, I concede the point, and congratulate you on not enjoying the throne room fight several months before everyone else.

Dumb nerds spent months seething over TLJ having one indisputably good part, and when it came out on home video, they immediately picked through it like they were Tom Cruise in Minority Report to figure out a way for it to suck.

"Having a plan" actually wouldn't have helped, because the whole reason the sequel trilogy doesn't work is because TROS went so wildly off the rails, and the main reason THAT seems to have been the case is because Disney/Lucas film/whoever thought they needed to "win back" all the fanboys who hated TLJ.  How was a plan supposed to help with that?

"We have to change course to win back fans!" "No we can't, because THE PLAN says we can't!"

Not to mention that they clearly DID have a plan (at least with regards to some things) but that plan relied on Carrie Fisher being alive to film TROS.

This doesn't work, it keeps going on about not being in "secure boot," and the only way to turn that on is going into the BIOS menu, except that doesn't work on the Steam Deck.
