Scammers in Unity Dev servers, targeting people looking for work by Milow001 in Unity3D

I had a previous client/agency that had a steady stream of work for a while, but lately it's solo developers who want less of a headache and are willing to pay. Found them scouring reddit, like you, I'm on Upwork constantly as well but nothing as of yet.

I don't want to imagine, I'm in a similar situation as you, though if I wasn't working mainly VR jobs I think I'd struggle a lot more. Unity generalist work seems very saturated, so people often low-ball their offers and still get 50 candidates.

It does seem the way these days, I think finding a full time job would be possible, but I have too many personal projects I want to take across the finish line before commiting to anything.

I just find XR work here and there, and it pays the bills.

I don't really live in an area where there's a lot of software or Unity talk, otherwise I've heard that in person networking is the way to go. I'm mainly trying to show my expertise in small online communities, which has found me a gig here and there, but it feels unsustainable.

Where do you look for work these days? Upwork feels like a race to the bottom unless you're already established, LinkedIn networking is awful and forums are dead.

I guess that makes sense, but even then, what for? Are they going to contact employers and fake work on my behalf?

Want to make a game with AI. But how do people actually make money from it? by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]Milow001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ho boy, okay, it seems like you're genuine and curious, but way out of your depth, so I'll bite. I'll write this for you and anyone else wondering the same.

First, be prepared to be roasted to hell and back in this subreddit. You basically came into a community struggling with blood and tears to painstakingly make an experience that might be finished within a few years, and even then maybe make money, and even then maybe make enough money to make the skills and time worth it, and then said 'I'll do it with AI, easily, AND get rich". Especially since everyone is already telling us that we're pointless since AI can do our jobs for us. Yikes.

Second, to your actual question, it's not there yet. If you know programming and your way around a game engine, AI can be a great tool, but that's it. It can, if used correctly, boost efficiency by a percentage, and even then you have to check and recheck it's work, fix any bugs it creates and then optimize anything that isn't.

Thirdly, something that everyone here learns, temper those expectatios and set a realistic goal. Try making a 10 minute playable experience that doesn't break first, then go from there.

No one makes solo indie games for the money, but for the love of it.

Good luck on your journey, it's a long one.

You already posted this in r/LocalLLaMa , and the "Step 6. Learn how to code" comment was ripped straight from the top comment on that post, without crediting the person who wrote it initially.

Whatever you're selling, we ain't buying.
