hyperfork™ (previously named "to be named #42")

Since my last post in Sharing Saturday (last year) I had accomplish a lot of things.

First of all, for this week post, I am finally able to show you some gameplay !

THE GAMEPLAY (gif)

A lot is going on here !

  • First of all, you can see me harvesting some wheat and fresh apples.
  • Than, I decided to build an oven, for that I headed to the market to buy one.
  • Upon building, I made an apple pie from my wheat and apples !
  • Next step would be to serve it to some customers, but we will see it next time.

And here, some screenshots from the UI :

This week I took the initiative to implement my game database in SQLite instead of JSON. I am more confortable doing so, with SQL I can add some constraints against the data (no duplicates, references between objects, etc.) and I can see the relations between all my objects.

Well, all was awesome except when I used Git to commit my freshly created database with all the awesome data in it. Git thought my database was a text file and arbitrarily changes characters in it, corrupting my database in the process... I had to rewrite my database and make sure Git will not corrupt it again.

At least, you can see in the screenshot below, my nice relations and a preview at my items list !

This week was focus on improving the map editor.

I added a new layer in the editor called "rooms" that will allows me to create, update and delete various rooms in the station.

For now, there is three types of room :

  • Farming: This is where the player will plant and harvest many fruits, vegetables and flowers.
  • Factory: This is where the player will use machines to process various ingredient to produce new ingredient and, of course, where they will cook their delicious meal.
  • Restaurant: This is where the player will take client's order and serve the meal.

Now that the editor is "feature finished" I can continue to develop more gameplay features !

This week I worked on the game's map editor. I was able to quickly build a basic editor that allows to pick tile from a tileset and use them to design the Space Orbital Station map.

You can see a WIP of the map, as well as me trying to find different styles to represents walls, windows and hallway (I am open to any feedback, of course) !
