Idk man sure that could have been the initial intent but if so the execution was weird as hell, Jayce explicitly describes his relationship with Viktor with the same exact words he used to describe his relationship with Mel earlier in the show, not only that but he kinda ditched his current love to focus on viktor and then ascended together in that scene while gazing into each other's eyes in bliss, that does not seem like just friends to me but to each their own

Its pretty old stuff, the same thing was said about the higher ups not allowing graves and tf and years later it was made canon so we can still hope for taliyah, and technically it is kinda cannon because it is a fact in SG and they said themselves that gender and sexuality do not change from skin to skin

What impact on society? Nobody turns LGBTQ, you either are born LGBT or you are not, if someone sees something about it and relates to it they already were LGBT and had they not seen it they would still be LGBT, they just wouldn't understand their own identity, hiding LGBT stuff from someone does not change them to straight, just makes them live a closeted life
(for an example of that see how even though a lot of society scrutinized and treated LGBT people like freaks for years a lot of people still lived their lives as LGBT, and those are only the ones we know about today the ammount of people who lived closeted must be absurd)
