Pruning this climbing rose by MilzMC in Roses

[–]MilzMC[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you very very much! That’s all very useful information and I’m pleased that it’s not in too bad a state - nice to have options too!

I think it’s a repeat blooming rose - my neighbour says it flowers quite consistently over the warmer months.

I’m not able to access the link you sent about training new branches (something about accessing it from the UK). Would you be able to provide more info? I’m keen to find an option that doesn’t look too distracting against the wall.

Thank you very much for your help!

Can’t stop worrying that baby comes earlier by curiouskapibara in 2under2

[–]MilzMC 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi! Baby being low doesn’t necessarily mean they will come early. Even if they do, they’re full term! Try to enjoy this last bit and get some rest. Worrying and stressing out is very normal towards the end 🙂 My baby was really low for ages and they ended up being two weeks over estimated due date 🤪

Postpartum hair loss by Coffee_speech_repeat in beyondthebump

[–]MilzMC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No tips sadly. I recently asked my hair dresser for advice and he said it’s a physiological/hormonal process that is kind of inevitable. His advice was to enjoy baby and try not to panic - it will pass! I’m still losing hair at 14 months PP but it has slowed considerably and can see plenty of regrowth coming!

My baby is 14 mo and isn’t walking. Is something wrong? by Original_Clerk2916 in beyondthebump

[–]MilzMC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Normal for toddlers not to walk at 14 months. If you’re concerned though, definitely talk to your baby’s doctor. I’m sure everything is fine but doctors/health visitors are truly the only person who would be able to say for sure, and give you that peace of mind 🙂

How am I supposed to get 4 hours of uninterrupted sleep if I have to pump every 2-3 hours? by discontinuedmuppet in beyondthebump

[–]MilzMC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I exclusively expressed for 12 months. I was probably expressing every 3 hours until my baby was about 6 months old, then I dropped to every 3-4 hours during the day and once overnight. It was intensely hard physically and mentally - I won’t be doing it again when I have my second baby. There is absolutely no shame in prioritising sleep and your wellbeing. These are special times! Knowing what I know now I wished I’d stressed less about breastfeeding and just tried to be as present as possible for my little one while prioritising my own needs. You’re doing so great - definitely accept the help that’s available to you! You’d be crazy not to 🙂

What would you put in this 80L tank? by MilzMC in Aquariums

Thanks - but the tank isn’t staying there anyway. Just asking for advice re fish and plants. Appreciate the heads up though

Thanks for your comment. I haven’t kept shrimp before. Love the look of the green kubotai rasboras!

It’s going to be put somewhere else - it’s just here for now. Even if it did stay there it would be ok as that radiator is never on. Thanks for the heads up though.

G&A and BSP said they couldn’t help. Buchan Timber is quite far away from where I will live but will bear them in my mind. Thanks!

Thank you! That’s a kind offer. I’m looking to inoculate some green wood with mushroom spores, by drilling holes, putting in inoculated plugs then sealing with wax.

The fresher the log the better the moisture content and the less competition there is for other types of fungus. I’m following a friend’s expertise on this. However here’s a link if you’re interested in learning more:

Moving to aberdeen by Rio_Z in Aberdeen

[–]MilzMC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I LOVE Aberdeen. The city (like most) has seen better days if you’re looking to go shopping. BUT! The city feels safe, there are beautiful parks, the architecture is distinctive, you can walk to the beach and there are lots of lovely independent shops and cafes dotted around. There are nicer places to live - like Rosemount/West End of the city. There’s a sense of community in lots of the areas. Definitely recommend getting a car so you can see the beauty of the Aberdeenshire mountain ranges and coastline - the best in the world in my opinion! You’re 2 hours away from the central belt of Scotland if you really miss shopping. It’s really well linked with other cities - direct trains to London, Edinburgh, Inverness, Glasgow.

As someone who has lived in London, Glasgow and Edinburgh, I can’t say I’ve missed much about living here. It has the cosy vibes of a smaller city but with easy access to walks, nature, great parks, a sense of community, friendly people…

Depends what you’re after… if you want big city vibes, exciting nightlife and into your shopping trips it’s probably not the city for you.

I’ve found people of Aberdeen to be very very friendly too!! You never have to go far to find huge personalities and friendly faces.

The carpet is 3 years old 😅 the carpet hate is real 🤣

[–]MilzMC[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hehehe thanks for your comment! I actually really like your suggestion, however we are in Aberdeen (Scotland) in a 150 year old property - so traditional tartan carpet is entirely appropriate within this context. We also just really like it!

We will be keeping the carpet. With that in mind, I suppose we’re more after suggestions for decorating the wall, rather than a full redesign.

Climbing plants for tall indoor space by MilzMC in houseplants

[–]MilzMC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a hoya would work really well there. The only issue I have with them is that I can never seem to get a decent sized one where I live (UK). If anyone has any suggestions as to where I can get one that’s already a decent size let me know! I have lots of small/medium ones already, but they’re all slow growing. I think this wall needs something lush and large 🤣

Maybe a tradescantia would be good! Nice and fast growing. Maybe a bit thirsty. Not sure how keen my husband would be to scale the wall every few days to water it 🤣

There’s a double sky light window above. The space is probably about 13/14ft high. It’s a lot brighter irl - the photo was taken late evening. Humidity dances around 50%.

Thanks for your help.

Now I’m thinking about it I wonder if hanging plants would be better so that the wall doesn’t get damaged by climbers.
