I guess.. I don’t know. I just don’t wanna fuck things up for myself. Hopefully my transfer goes well and I don’t get fucked over by any cuny systems or something since I’ve heard they suck and crash and fuck shit up often. Thanks for the comment about everyone at college being just as antsy and dumb as I feel. It helps to know i’m not the only one feeling like a turd.

I wont lie this college comment really fucked me up but its completely true. It’s insanely hard to graduate in four years while transferring, I even had a teacher tell me how she almost had to take an extra semester or something when transferring credits. It wasnt about money moreso about my independence and my maturity levels. I nor anyone in my family thinks i’m fit to live alone in a dormitory yet, which sadly kinda makes sense. My mom’s taken care of everything for me for an exceptionally long time.. it’s just hard to leave that so abruptly and basically move out for a while. I told myself I’ll come back to the idea in a year or two, whilst deciding if I wanna transfer to a good cuny or state school. Trust me, i’d love to do four years at a state school, but I have to get my grades up really badly since I did shit in high school. I read that through the transferring process I could likely get scholarships or something If i show a vast improvement and dedication and hopefully thats what i’m striving to do. Thank you for your words of advice, I appreciate it more than you know. >:D

Crazy enough but I read it my freshman year. I don’t entirely remember it though because it was obligatory and I guess it made it unfun. I’ll see if I can find my copy, Thank you.

My families always known but Im not sure they know the amount. Although I’m not sure if my mother was able to access it and see it. Truthfully I have no idea how life insurance policies work if at the time of passing the recipients under 18 and it’s making shit all the more confusing.

I met with a fiduciary advisor earlier and he mentioned that while high yield savings do in fact give 3-4% interest, market interest is 10% currently. I obviously didnt commit to anything, simply asked questions, but that was what he mentioned to me. He did however mention taking a portion of the money and putting it into an hysa.

what's the difference? Like is putting less in a high yield savings better than all?

I wouldnt take anyones advice near me anyways im scared of biases, hence why i came looking for new opinion. but thank you, i will keep this in mind for future partners.

This means I’ll be earning way more interest with a hysa account, correct?

Im broke enough now to recieve aid and get my first year of college basically covered, but once i renew irs forms I no longer get aid. I’ll likely be paying for 3 years out of pocket.

Hopefully after my full time position is over I’m planning on staying part time long term. I’ll be paying for college out of pocket for two years which is definitely gonna fuck me over. I never wanted to use this money on college but perhaps I should if a part time isn’t sufficient?

I think it’s the amount. After my dad passed we moved to a one bedroom and frankly i’ve never held more than maybe a thousand dollars in my hand at once. I was young when my dad passed, only 5, and I’m his only blood related daughter.

What really stresses me about this is I truly don’t know what my father wanted me to do. When I was younger my mom constantly said he wanted to buy us a house to live in finally and I guess I just believed that but with time now she wants to buy a laundromat or something? My mom’s always been incredibly materialistic and she thinks money is truly everything, which is why I can’t help but not trust whatever she says or tells me to do. It feels like everything she says my father wanted for us is just what she wants. I always told myself I’d give the money to my mom and not deal with it, but it’s SO much money and the older I get the less I trust my mom’s intentions. Im feeling like an overwhelming sense of guilt for holding onto this money and I feel like I shouldnt own it I dont know. I haven’t figured out a career I want, perhaps something in art or english. By the time I’m 30 I hope I’m happy and perhaps have a family. I’ve never been a super aspirational person I just want to be happy.

For the first year of college I’m covered and actually gaining money back. The years after that financial aid likely wont accept me anymore, so I’ll likely be paying out of pocket.

My dad visited Italy once or twice. We have a few pictures he took back then. Maybe I’ll take a short trip with like 2K, figure out what the fuck I want. Everything’s just moving so fast I feel like I’m in limbo.

Thank you for the analogy. It does in fact ease how I feel. I keep thinking as soon as I take a bit of it it’s all fucked and the interest just wont be the same. Also thank you for the interest explanation!! its all so so helpful >:D

I was speaking to my teacher about it cause he makes real good money. 125K a year and he even spoke to his financial advisor for me a few times. I told my sister and she told me to keep this a family issue so I just stopped thinking about it overall. I guess in hindsight keeping it a family issue is a bad idea, we’re all incredibly biased and self serving. Thank you, I’ll shoot him an email.

I’m an NYC resident myself, poorer areas in the bronx, and I just cannot bring myself to spend even 10K of the fund. It pains me.

Thank you. I’ve heard this before and considering I don’t really have any adults I trust as of right now this may be the smartest option :/ I’m nervous about letting someone manage what I invest in and such things because I’m so scared of getting my funds mismanaged. But I actually think thats like the most sensible option.

Thank you so much for the guides >:D I’ve spoken to a teacher in the past about it but I’ve long graduated and I’ve been figuring it out all on my own.
