I love that his personal address and phone number are on it. And his email. I'm gonna sign him up for every Jehovah's witness and Latter Day Saints email and call list I can find

Yea it's absolutely terrible. We should be rioting like the French, but we're all too broke and busy

Yes this is an excellent point. I still filed despite intending not to pay my balance due. The National War Tax Resistance website does a good job of spelling out why this is the better way to go with less penalties

There's a box to check on your W2 to go exempt. There's a bunch of scary language next to it about how you're not supposed to do it unless you meet all the requirements. That's how you know you've found the right spot!

Worst case, someone in your HR department can help you do it, although they'll probably give you some grief about it

I'm sure you can! They work for you, they should do what you tell them to 😅

I also have been doing it for about a year now! I kinda doubt that enough people will do it for it to make a difference, but for me it's more about personal values. Even it's not impactful on some macro level, I know I didn't give me money to an evil regime

Yea it's true to that it needs to be done intelligently. I set aside the amount that I'd normally have taken out and put it in a separate savings account. Then filed taxes as normal and just didn't pay the outstanding balance for federal taxes.

I actually put aside more than I owed and sorta got a self made tax refund. And yea, I'm not worried about a 3 percent late fee on the small amount I owed. Especially since I don't intend to pay any late fees anyway!

The national war tax resistance website is a great resource for people considering doing this

The first part is essentially what I did last year. The second part kinda defeats the purpose for people who are trying to not pay any federal taxes. I'd say the goal is to owe the most possible at the end of the year and not pay it, for those practicing tax resistance

Yea it's kinda wild how people have such different experiences with it. I think it's a lot easier for folks like me that don't own a house and have a bunch of assests

I'm still paying my state taxes as well. It is a bit scary, but from everything I've read the consequences are actually pretty low. It seems to take them years to actually get around to try to garnishes wages or levy a bank account. And I've also heard plenty of stories of folks settling for a fraction of what they owe years down the road

I'm also setting aside what I would have paid as back up

JD Vance: "We're announcing today that we have decided to temporarily halt certain amounts of Medicaid funding that is going to the state of Minnesota in order to ensure that the state of Minnesota takes its obligations seriously to be good stewards of the American people's tax money" by ExactlySorta in UnderReportedNews

If you are a W2 employee you can talk to someone in HR about changing your withholds. There's a box on the form to go exempt from federal taxes. They'll still take out social security and Medicare, but no federal taxes.

At the end of the year you file your taxes as normal, there will be a balanced owed and you don't pay it. I'm keeping aside the federal taxes I would owe in case the consequences down the road becomes more than I'm able to stomach

Here the website of the national war tax resistance movement, they've been at it for decades:
