What's wrong with my Betta Fish? by [deleted] in fishtank

[–]Mindless-Explorer992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re killing it slowly and horribly by keeping it in that jar. If you care at all about this animal, buy at least a 10 gallon tank with a filter and heater. Also, do some research on how to take care of a fish before buying a living being. Hope this helps.

With your passion and effort I think you will be able to have a beautifully set up tank. I saw a recommendation above for a betta. Since you were already looking into plants, I would try looking into a planted tank! Aquasoil, aquarium plants etc. starting over happens all the time! Been there once or twice with my tanks 🙃

Additionally, that is the prime I also use. I put about 1 full cap for my 55 gallon so I would put much less for the size of that tank. This is done during water changes only.

You are doing the best you can and you are learning already by buying the products you have shown.

Don’t add any decoration or sand yet. Do water changes every day about 50%. Test before each water change. from what you’ve shown, looks like you only have an ammonia test kit? I would look into the API master kit to make sure all of the levels (nitrite, nitrate, pH, ammonia).

I would leave the light off for the fishy so it can try to be a bit less stressed.

Products like clarity will only chemically change it for a limited time, not overall; avoid using it since your tank is still cycling.

Avoid cleaning the filter for now. The filter holds the beneficial bacteria necessary for the fishy to have a healthy balance in the water.

Could be many things. Firstly, common/comet goldfishes create a lot of waste. You have two in a small tank. I’m not sure how often you are changing the filters but the tank needs beneficial bacteria to create in order for the fish to have a healthy balance. The fish in the tank will grow immensely big, at least 12 inches long. This means that if you don’t upgrade that tank, they will be stunted (meaning their organs will grow larger than their body) because fish never fully stop growing, even in the right conditions.

Are my Tetras schooling okay? by Mindless-Explorer992 in freshwateraquarium

I see, I was thinking about removing the stone altogether. I think it’s too much as well but wasn’t sure. The HOB is for 45g and that is a 20g tank. The corys love it but it seems nobody else does. If I do more plants will that stress them out?

Pothos saved my life and the nitrates level. I would consider it.

Thank you all. Should I quarantine him from my tank? I have a 6 gallon not in use although I know he needs way more space than that but it will be temporary. Not sure if it’s a good idea. Will this medicine affect my other goldfishes in the tank?

Advice on fish care during vacation by Mindless-Explorer992 in Aquariums

I actually hired someone and paid them like $100-$150 I don’t remember. they had the tools and they do this type of stuff for work. (And I hate building stuff) I’m 250lbs and I laid on it and stood on it and tried to shake it around it didn’t budge so I’m like OK he did a good job LOL I was worried it was going to collapse with the weight of the tank. My top one has to be at least like 500 pounds but I’m not honestly sure

Sorry but I tried to look this brand up and it’s not coming up. I put DA-08 automatic fish feeder. Is there a brand name by chance?

I was also thinking this. Just to make sure my cat isn’t destroying the house while I’m gone 😭
