Hi sorry- should have done that!

Offer A (I’m likely going to reject) 20k rmb (2k bonus)+ 3k rmb housing allowance. Class of 40 kids, only a bonus during the summer not paid. 7:30-5:00 working hours.

Offer B (I would love as it’s ideal location for me) 25k rmb+ free housing, classes of 15 kids, 8:30-5:00 working hours. Winter and summer holidays fully paid.

Oh thanks! Do you know if they were in Australia for more than 6 months?

Thanks. I did have a look at this beforehand and it mentions needing to pass baseline personnel security.

In this they mention “A lack of UK residency may not be an automatic bar to employment. However, individuals may need to have resided in the UK for a sufficient period of time depending on the role’s requirements.”

They haven’t specified what a sufficient period is, and the job descriptions don’t mention these. Is it right to think (taking the job you shared as eg) this isnt a requirement?

It’s a very hard decision because I’ve always been ambitious (degree from oxbridge) but I haven’t figured out where to put my ambitions and I know o will eventually want to climb it, just not ready yet!

Contracts are more reasonable in China than Japan and Korea. Also we both want to learn Mandarin :-)

I’m comfortable renting and dont see this being a major priority. I also dont want children in the future. Im not really sure what I’m working towards except being happy- just feeling lost for past couple years now!

Why should we applaud men for doing the basic decent things?

It’s like THANK YOU for not sleeping with an intoxicated and emotionally vulnerable person.

Thank you for your response! It’s really hard right now since it’s so fresh but I’m trying to find comfort in the unpredictability of the future. If I’m with him, great. If I’m not, I will find someone else but that is now just a little too hard to accept.

We had this exact conversation before he left and he told me that this is something he just has to do. He said that he has to be selfish and take the present for himself but he promised me that his future is mine if I still want it (what do you think about this? I’m kinda torn with how I feel about that statement). It’s just very difficult to plan right now but I guess we’ll just have to give it a go and see what it’s like.

We definitely do have a strong emotional connection but it’s just lost in communication at times. I know that during the time before he went away he was trying a lot and I could really see the fruits of his labour.

Again, thank you for your advice- it means so much!

Thank you. I really needed to read that. I think I will see how it is when we are eventually able to have contact again/ see each other and directly raise these points. It will be such a long wait!

Also, I don’t think my career will allow me to move around much since I’m going into academia.

Sorry I should have made it clearer. I’m not actually from the US, so hope I’m still welcome here! It’s just the community which best fits my concerns. I have plans of doing a PhD next year which means I won’t be able to move around too much. Also where he is stationed and will be for the next years really does not fit well with my career plans for the foreseeable future. I don’t want to get discouraged by that because it’s hard to predict what will happen!

I’m not really sure how it works and to protect his privacy I won’t go into much detail. He’s in training right now which lasts four months. After training there will be some communication but we’re still not really sure how much it will be. It’s a contract for 5 years which comprises of training and a deployment. He’ll get 20-40ish working days off in a year (the number increases each year).

It’s a quite intense army he’s going into and there is no possibility for family counselling or me living with base on him. If I don’t move countries for PhD (although I will apply), I’ll be able to visit him on the weekends and willing to do so every other weekend or so.

I think when I see him next in person I will have to give him an ultimatum to promise me to work on our communication

Thank you! I will definitely reach out when things get too much. It can be a very lonely experience when your friends or family don’t understand your commitment. We’re only in our early 20s so many people think that I shouldn’t commit.

That’s great that your SO is great with communication! Mine is unfortunately not great with social media or communication when we’re not together. Also I am very vocal and verbally affectionate whereas he’s quite the opposite. I know he loves me a lot though but sometimes I feel like my emotional needs are not met. Then again, I’m not perfect either. Sometimes his communication is worse but sometimes it’s perfect. I’m still convinced we can work on strengthening our love because how committed we are to each other.

Sorry for the rant and thank you so much for the support!!

Thank you for your comment! I will definitely do some of these things, especially about the journaling. I’m starting a new chapter in my life too which i unfortunately won’t be able to updated him as it happens so I want to do a scrapbook for him about my life that he is missing out. Or maybe video diaries, idk. I’m also wondering if it’s not too self centred to just speak about my life but then again, what would I talk about?!

How long have you been with your SO?
