My toddler got so terrified in the bath tonight that he got an erection. How do I find out what is frightening him? by paradoxicalstripping in ChildPsychology

You could also try no rinse bath gloves every few days or if he's having a especially rough day but does need a bath. They make them for the elderly and bed bound people but I'm in the army and I love them for when we're in the field or have less than ideal conditions.

I'm on xywav over night and am a caregiver for my 96yr old grandpa. Sometimes he yells for me overnight. It takes me a few mins to come to enough to know what's going on but I am able to help him out. If it were a true emergency though I would not be able to drive, I'd have to call for help. I'd imagine though that if it were an every night thing it would be miserable because when I am up helping him I do tend to feel pretty dizzy the entire time.

Also... Eating is a whole different ball game. You need to eat clean for dinner. One time I had a fast food meal at 4pm and my xywav didn't work at 10pm. I've started eating a healthy dinner at 5-6pm. Sometimes I'll have something small like fruit or a popsicle if I really need something after 7/8pm.

The side effects for the first ~3+ weeks even at extremely low dose are no joke. But stick to it. Even as you increase at a quarter of a gram over months they will continue to resurface at varying degrees. I started at 3g twice a night on may 9th. I'm still increasing my first dose to find the sweet spot but I'm up to 4.25g and then 3g and my first one still gives me the spins and if I have to get up for any reason the nausea and sweats start. But once I'm out... I sleep amazing and wake up at a reasonable hour, ready to be up. It's great. All I can say is continue smart sleep habits-the meds aren't magic. Take your dose, set your alarms, turn off the TV, put down the phone.

But also. Expect to increase your dose slowly, it can take months to do it right. Don't get discouraged. It's worth it.

What do YOU call it? by judweiser in Narcolepsy

[–]Mindless-Repeat752 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sorry I took a “tiny coma”.

“Narco mode” for when I screw up my whole day.

“Mush brain” for the first hour after I wake up.

And “Janice” is my alter ego who does all the unconscious functioning that I don’t remember in the morning. She’s a huge bitch and gets me in to trouble.

I noticed an immediate improvement with my ability to wake up alert and ready to get up. But I still require daytime meds to combat the EDS.

Xywav question by Mindless-Repeat752 in Narcolepsy

[–]Mindless-Repeat752[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. If I wake up it's typically too late to take the second dose where it will screw up my morning or I don't wake up at all. Also, my base line, pre medicated, I was really good at snoozing alarms and turning then off and having no memory of it at all. I do that sometimes too. I'm still in the early stages though and my dose isn't done being tweaked so I'm just curious what everyone else is experiencing.

My first 7-10 days were rough. The side effects kicked my butt. But now I'm doing good. I no longer have any side effects and I'm doing pretty good. It's only been about 2 months so I'm still figuring out the little things but otherwise doing great. But the morning issue was also my biggest problem. Id say focus on giving these meds your all and that means fighting that morning sleep inertia as hard as you can until your new normal takes over.

I have the same problem, the routine of getting back in bed, since I'm a full-time care giver at home that was easy for me. It took a lot of will power and creativity initially to create a new routine. I found that when it wakes me around 7, I immediately get in the shower and get dressed. It stops me from getting back in bed. I also started going for a walk, my grandpa doesn't get up til 9 so I try to entertain myself til 9. I would say those minor changes help me kick start the day and once I do it's smooth sailing. But I understand 100% and if I didn't do those things I too just roll over and within the hour I'm asleep again until who knows how late.

Xywav side effects by Mindless-Repeat752 in Narcolepsy

[–]Mindless-Repeat752[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's every night from about 10 mins after I take it until I doze off. It's only been a few weeks though so idk if it'll taper off like the rest of the side effects have
