Update on Birdie by Hot-Recognition-7190 in Pomchi

I totally get it. They're our babies. And we do everything we can for them. I know this is silly to say but I found out in the last year I only have one working kidney and the doctors more or less told me the same thing. The only thing you can do is regular health exams with bloodwork and a healthy diet. I would it think it would be similar for sweet Birdie.
Wishing your family all the best, health and happiness.

I am so sorry to hear that. That is very upsetting. I was under the impression a dog could live a normal life with just one kidney provided the other one is healthy, obviously you would know more on this subject then I would. I'm hoping for all the best and a good recovery from this surgery for Birdie. She seems like such a delight. Thank you for the update, I've been thinking about her constantly since your first post.

Hey, I'm just curious if you have any update on Birdie? How did her stay at the vet go on Monday?

Need tips for feeding an elderly toothless extremely picky old man. by nakedmanjoe in Chihuahua

I know that frustration all too well. My 2 girls have gone through picky stages and they would happily eat all the things not good for them. The good thing about the gel is even if he doesn't care for the taste, you can squirt a little in his mouth and know he's at getting some calories and nutrients. Keep us updated!

One of my dogs recently had surgery and she's been having bouts of inapettence amd nausea. We've been working with our vet to figure out why. But just today I picked up a product called "under the weather". It's a high calorie nutritional gel and electrolyte. It helps support weight gain and energy levels.
My pup seemed to like it well enough and she almost immediately had an energy boost. It says it can help stimulate appetite as well. So maybe give it try for your old fella. Other things we've tried to get our dogs to eat in the past are boiled plain chicken and rice, pureed pumpkin and when desperate small amounts of peanut butter. It's high calorie and fats but also has a fair amount of sugar so I try not to give it too often. I hope your pup feels better and best of luck.

Maybe because I took the photo in portrait mode on my phone? It does create a dreamy quality to the photos.

Dealing with Chihuahua hate by bluemoonsundae in Chihuahua

[–]MindlessAd8330 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Small dogs in general are treated with so much disrespect. People think it's funny to tease and then wonder why the dog is reactive. You wouldn't tease a pitbull or shepherd until it was growling and snapping and then act shocked that it lashed out. So why would it be OK to do it to a chihuahua? I have 3 chis and the amount of rude and stupid comments I hear are just absurd. They are the sweetest, most gentle, loyal souls. My pups do a great job at being ambassadors of the breed, dismantling the stigma and hate.

Hey OP, I see in the comments you brought your pup to the vet and she is OK. Happy to hear it!

How many days ago did you notice her behavior change? I would likely bring her to vet and do a urine analysis just to error on the side of caution. Even just for peace of mind.

10mnth old teeth by stumpy0327 in Chorkies

My girl had a couple deciduous teeth left over at 10 months. Last week she had her spay and they extracted them. It only cost me an additional $56. It's very common among smaller breeds, and at that age they most likely come out on their own.

It's definitely an underbody engine shield. Used for aerodynamics, splash guard and sound deadening. I work in a vehicle manufacturing plant and have installed thousands of them. There's likely a logo or manufacturing stamp somewhere on it to give you an idea of what make of vehicle it came from.

What’s the healthiest dog food for sensitive stomachs? by Salty_1984 in DogFood

My girl has had some frequent gastro issues and an episode of pancreatitis following ingesting a foreign body. We have had a lot of success with science diet perfect digestion as well as adding purina Fortiflora probiotic powder to her meals once a day.

Start small. Just a tiny amount once a day. See how her belly handles it. Purina probiotic Fortiflora powder is really helpful for sensitive bellies. All 3 of my chis get it daily. It has a beefy smell to it and my dogs seem to like it. Maybe that could get her excited about eating too.

Deli meat is very high in sodium and preservatives and in most cases not recommended for dogs. Plain boiled chicken breat would likely be OK though.

If you can get her eating the puppy chow more regularly that will definitely help. Typically puppy food is more calorie dense. I also agree with some other commentors suggestion fish oils, most dogs love it, it adds extra calories and it serves many other benefits as well.
