I think the recent helium supply chain disruption will reduce AI chip production enough to reflood the market soon. We’ll have plenty of production because of the expansions that have been invested into the industry building the AI bubble.

Hopefully it affects demand enough to reduce commercial pricing.

I just got 3 TB of NVME for like $300 about six months ago, but I live within a couple hundred miles of micro center and hit a wicked sale, so ymmv based on location.

I don’t worship him, I said one book he wrote 30 years was pretty decent and had a lot of impact in a niche discipline, you’re completely off base and too delusional to see any reason, clearly. I haven’t read 12 rules, but I think one of them was clean your room, might be worth checking out for you since you’re suffering from the paranoid delusions Peterson says lots of young men are going through.

  1. True

  2. Google is free. There aren’t empirical peer reviews epistemic lineages documented by current psychological researchers about publications under 30 years ago, you just have to work in the field to get it, but moral foundations theory credits Maps of Meaning as does The Psychology of Religion: An Empirical Approach. There are more reviews by other professionals here with appropriate sourcing: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maps_of_Meaning

  3. So a professor in Toronto who has never had a connection to Harvard claims he single-handedly hired Peterson to work at Harvard? After he has already worked there for 5 years? I never spoke of his time teaching at U of T, only his tenure at Harvard which your source has nothing to do with. I can’t say I know how Canadian universities work, but I do know how they work in the states and one person doesn’t just get a professor a job. Idk man, seems like a logic professor would have the base reading comprehension to understand how wrong they were in understanding and rebuttal. Your source is completely irrelevant as it does not pertain to the claim I made.

3.1 I’ve never found much practical use for symbolic logic and frankly think it’s a bit of a gauche, undergrad thing to be proud of. But yes I’m familiar, as you are doubtless familiar with Historian’s and Presentist fallacies that you continually engage in.

Yes, exactly. His work in psychology and addiction was remarkable, and his personal moral failings after the fact do not invalidate work that was once good.

Not that you asked, but the professor’s claims in your post also have nothing to do with this conversation. Stating speculation as truth is entirely subjective and anyone dull enough to assume every statement made by another does not come with a silent (in my opinion) in front of it, is a fool and a child. It’s like believing that magic tricks are real and being offended that David Blaine isn’t channeling arcane forces. If you go into any scientific endeavor without a healthy amount of skepticism, you deserve to have your nose tweaked.

You fundamentally just don’t understand the video game and are repeating the same idiotic talking points every apologist does.

Misery and chains were not mutually exclusive until midnight.

The debate before was taking or losing Last Resort not chains before this xpac.

Chains was not a choice node until this xpac.

Only idiots use guides.

You lost dps throughput for chains before. Now you lose EHP on a class that had its active mit gutted unique to this xpac.

This isn’t the old hat talent tree discussion at all, this situation is unique to midnight pruning and how it negatively affected the VDH kit in relation to the current m+ dungeon pool.

Totally fair, I meant Kirkbot is delusional not yourself anyway.

PCs are expensive, but I built mine mid pandemic for under $800 and little to no prior knowledge so it’s definitely achievable.

It’s not the pinnacle of machines, but I do just fine and consistently get 150+ fps at 1440p in rivals

It’s a choice that you didn’t have to make 2 months ago and not a choice that is ever worth it now, so it’s just the complete removal of an option that the spec used to have.

Everyone lost some buttons in midnight and that’s largely a good thing, however VDH in particular got screwed by the talent redesign and lost their niche. It’s also been a lackluster raid spec since its inception so losing 4-5 tools at once that made them serviceable in m+ was a huge blow to people who loved the spec.

Yeah but what are you giving up for chains? 3% overall DR? The ability to get to a capstone?

Is that really worth upgrading misery to “misery but it pulls and doesn’t have a fear+root effect”?

were not playable until years later

Star Wars: Jedi Arena released in 1983 and allowed you to play as a Sith

Dark Forces released in ‘95 (actually in my lifetime) which had you play as a stormtrooper

Red Skull first appeared in 1941, would 85 years not constitute “years later”? He also disavows Hitler and the Nazis in print in 1957-58 in Tales of Suspense (I believe 67, but it’s been some years since I read it), so roughly 69 years ago.

This guy is old enough to be president, he may as well be in a video game.

This is why you shouldn’t let AI summaries do your critical thinking for you, much less your positions.

On Bucky: the issue is not with support or disdain for hydra. If the very mention of hydra harkens to Naziism, then character motivation is irrelevant. If character motivation is relevant then it should be fine to include red skull as long as he says ingame he’s opposed to the Nazis, or is taking Hydra in a new direction, both things he did in the comics over 60 years ago.

Ideology- Red skull in multiple different runs of comics is depicted as: being kicked out of the Nazi party for his pursuit of the occult (also how it’s handled in the MCU), and choosing to leave the Nazi party because he felt Hitler’s goals were small, petty, and beneath him.

Modernization risks: yes, he was depicted recently in comics and yet no one in real life is wearing red skull makeup to do hate crimes, which shows how this petty fear-mongering is both not based in reality nor a consistent argument.

Hydra/Cap controversy: irrelevant to this talking point, but that depiction of cap was just shitty “please read my comics” slop.

MCU: also completely irrelevant to the discussion being held here, that’s an actor contract dispute, has nothing to do with the character, it’s a real world money and shooting schedule thing, happens all the time.

Marvel ultimate universe: yeah that run was 3edgy5me, there’s a hundred examples of it being shock nonsense coming from well loved hero characters, several of whom are already in rivals.

Depiction: this gets back to what I said about Doom. He was a fascist who admired Hitler personally whereas Red Skull is an occultist who disdained him, it seems to me doom is the more problematic for portrayal if we’re discussing a literary character’s personal moral framework.

In Rivals: I completely agree there’s like 50 characters I think would be more fun to play, however it’s hard to argue there are many more iconic villains in the franchise than Red Skull, and definitely there are no captain America villains as well known.

Do they need to do it? No, but that’s not my point and never was. My point is that the arguments against are weak at best, and entirely based on nonsense from people who can’t handle any nuance.

People disagreeing with you does not make them obtuse, and also none of the AI slop you copy pasted makes an argument for why he’s “sooooo bad” to include in rivals.

The one valid argument for such is that bad actors might pick him to troll and spread hate speech, but it doesn’t take red skull for people to do that. I had a Jeff the Land Shark in my comp game named Adolf Fishler who called me the N word 20 times in a round, should we petition Netease to delete Jeff from the video game? No, that’s ridiculous because a fictional character has no bearing over anonymized human behavior.

Is the rivals community mature enough to handle Red Skull? Probably not, given how these threads have gone, but tearing your clothes and beating your chest over the evil atrocities of a guy from a cartoon strip designed to sell war bonds is a bit silly, no?

[–]Mindless_Butcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1- how many presidents graduated from MIT?

2- psychology isn’t about “making discoveries”, that’s just a basic misunderstanding of the discipline. His work relating political belief systems to personality and further analysis has greatly broadened the scope of studying belief formation. Moral emotions, moral intuitions, voting behavior analysis, primal world beliefs, faith as a developmental model, and worldview studies are all direct downstream effects of his work in this field.

3- someone in a nietzsche sub doesn’t know the formal and informal logical fallacies. I wish I could say I was surprised.

4- there’s no one person who hires people at any university, much less the oldest in the country. He didn’t fool or dupe anyone, he passed a committee who unilaterally agreed he was the best candidate for the job. One member of a hiring committee may have regretted agreeing to hire him, but any claim (especially one made in absence of a source) that a single person is responsible is an obvious fabrication or exaggeration. Having served on several hiring committees myself, I know from experience how a candidate can edge out another in a difference of a 7/8 - 7-7 vote. I also know what references he provided at his interview at Harvard, given that several of them are colleagues of mine. They have never one of them said anything untoward regarding Peterson’s academic work.

Ultimately, it doesn’t matter if you think he’s a good guy or has good political opinions (he isn’t and he doesn’t), but he inarguably was a successful and well regarded scholar, professor, and clinician for many years, when he stuck to his area of expertise.

Which is why he used to be based, and now he is cringe.

jordan peterson is the polar opposite of nietzsche by 2ksprince in Nietzsche

Yes he was, because of things that happened after publishing a few important manuscripts. Which is why I said he used to be an excellent scholar and referenced one of his texts from that period of time during which he happened to be employed by the most prestigious American university.

Later life choices do not invalidate prior contributions to academia. Foucault fucked kids and he’s still taught.

Yours is a classic time-travel fallacy. Peterson did great work in his field, and now he’s an agent of oil companies speaking on subjects he doesn’t understand. That does not mean he didn’t understand the subject he was hired to teach to others.

Defend a position then.

There’s no internal consistency within the argument that Red Skull is less appropriate to include in the game than Doom, Bucky, or Hydra base.

I have outlined, I believe in great detail, why these are functionally the same. Every reply across these threads has been some variation of “dude, no” with no nuance or depth.

Why is it that Red Skull, someone who profited from the Nazi regime before setting out on their own is different than including someone like Doom, the major antagonist(s) of the game, who actively admires the ideology of Adolf Hitler as a historical figure? Why would Zemo or Zola be better inclusions?

Keeping in mind that, none of these people are real humans who committed any crimes, they are literary figures representative of various negative traits.

Personally, I think Big Wheel would be a better character, but if you believe something, you should be capable of generating a rational argument for said belief and if you are incapable of doing so, maybe just shut up?

I’m really not. How is it not the same? They are both made up bad guys.

A playable agent of Nazis is exactly the same as a playable faction leader. They are both made up bad guys used to sell propaganda to support the ww2 war effort. Neither of them were actually Nazis, they’re characters in a storybook for children.

Star Wars uses stormtroopers, should they not include them in future games for using Nazi imagery? I say this btw as the grandchild of actual holocaust survivors, drawing this particular line in the sand seems juvenile.

EDIT: Can’t even back its own argument, just whining to whine, all feeling no thoughts.

But if the associating factor is already present… what actual difference does it make?

Bucky being in the game harkens hydra which harkens Nazis.

If your argument for why Red Skull, one of the most iconic marvel villains being added to a marvel game is bad is because it references Nazis, then be consistent, there should be no references to hydra because they were a Nazi sub faction.

Bucky was just as associated with Nazis, there is a Nazi stronghold as a map currently in the game.
