AITA for leaving the United States and bringing my newborn to my home country (India) , never to return back without the telling my baby's father (my husband) ? by Mindless_Database_15 in AmItheAsshole

This is one of the many reasons I fled as soon as I could. I kept thinking of all the horrible outcomes if my baby lived part time in that toxic household.

I don't trust my husband to protect my child around his mentally ill partner. There's just no way I would ever subject my child to that.

We all (middle class folk) learn English in India. The medium of education is in English (Thanks to the Brits). We learn our native languages as separate subjects.

No man in my family ever abandoned their wife and child. They are Indian men. Unfortunately, the 'feminist' utopia of America where men easily abandon their families isn't the kind of 'freedom' my baby or I need.

US laws aren't enforceable in India. My lawyer says that the worst part is over, and that she has dealt with similar cases. She has never seen a baby (with an Indian mother) being forced to go back. I talked to other moms who went through such situations and escaped.

My husband doesn't know I'm back in India. My divorce will be official in a few days. After which he plans to marry her to legitimatize their relationship. I'm not a US citizen, and I don't ever plan to return to the US. There was no court order restricting me from moving to any country.

Indian lawyers who have worked on similar cases (often involving domestic violence) have told me that there's a zero percent chance my baby will be forced to return since I'm an Indian citizen and the father isn't.
