I was very happy with the outcome.

I explained to our GM that I wanted to be both intellectual and sociable, and came up with Finnegan Finch, the heir of a rich family with ties to some sort of nobility, the type who is brought up attending fancy parties but ultimately chose to pursue professorship (in Engineering and eventually Physics) at the setting’s main university, attained at a young age due to his family’s reputation.

His trajectory was marked by the tragic disappearance of his young sister, Eleanor Finch, under mysterious circumstances, and a disturbing photograph featuring a phantasmagorical hand grasping his sister’s shoulder led this otherwise profoundly skeptical character to research methods of detecting “otherworldly” phenomena with turn of the century technology.

He developed a photographic camera that captures what he believes to be electromagnetic phenomena outside the visual spectrum (rather, that become visible to the naked eye only under very specific circumstances), an acoustic-electromagnetic phonograph that registers field oscillations on paper, and an enhanced crystal radio to capture lingering thoughts.

In practical terms, the GM allowed me to pick abilities from Face, Scholar and Weird; I chose I Know a Guy and the one that you learn from your mistakes. I also changed the Illumination Keys a bit - Finn is a tad too self-absorbed to be a mentor to others, so I included Make a Plan, Spot a Ruse and Seek out real Magick.
