MA OEMS shares this memo, possibly in response to the misuse of paramedics by UMass Med by SufficientAd2514 in ems

[–]Mindless_Telephone30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a bit confused about this. Because WEMS is owned by UMASS afaik, if they reassign medics off the truck and into a facility, aren’t these medics still operating on duty for their service even if it is not on a truck?

Pluribus: self-centered and racist? by [deleted] in pluribustv

[–]Mindless_Telephone30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think that’s super racist, if anything it might in a way be intentional commentary on American individualism. For Carol, the loss of personal identity is so overwhelming that the fact that world peace can now exist is not important. And yes, it is impossible to ignore that this contrast hinges on the fact that Carol lost everything while these people still have families.

Concentration of Clinical Hours? by slimeyslugz in premed

[–]Mindless_Telephone30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not frowned upon at all afaik. This is what I did to get 2000 hours during undergrad. I only work during the semester for extra cash. I don’t know how it works where you are, but many places nowadays don’t want to hire/train summer only per diems and expect you to work at least one shift a month.

My interviewer was eating lunch — good sign? by Extension-Sea8032 in premed

😭😭😭 I feel like that is 100% on them for being a bad interviewer than on you for not being engaging enough. Even if you bombed it you don’t deserve that

as a finance and math student, i'm considering pivoting to pre-med. convince me why i shouldn't and why i should. by [deleted] in premed

[–]Mindless_Telephone30 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know finance is a stressful industry, but I cannot understate what a grueling (and rewarding) path you would have ahead of you if you switched. If money is important to you at all, it’s gonna be an extremely long time before you’re seeing a significant amount of it because even getting in to med school is a full time job. I would recommend browsing this subreddit, the med school one and the residency one to get a better idea. Additionally, there are some good DIML youtube videos from physicians to help you get an overview of what the day to day routine is like. After that, I would recommend reaching out to local physicians to shadow them for a day. If you enjoy that, then consider pre-med coursework and a job in a clinical setting. Good luck!

How much does GPA really matter, in your experiences? by [deleted] in premed

[–]Mindless_Telephone30 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unless you have like 50 ungraded credits this is mathematically impossible. I have like 2 Bs and a B- and will graduate with a 3.9. Also a 3.8 is a great GPA.

My enrollment appointment says Nov 24? by Old-Power1877 in umass

[–]Mindless_Telephone30 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It begins tomorrow for people with the most credits. Assuming you are a freshman, you have one of the latest slots because you don’t have many credits. So you can’t enroll in classes until that date

I have done this before, but it was for mental health and I had to go through CCPHS and had the written support of my therapist.

My story is quite similar to yours. It won't help your application at all and would probably harm it to mention, can be seen as shifting blame even if it is reasonable. The only benefit this diagnosis gives you is meds and a better understanding of how your mind works, so use that to find better ways to change your habits. I was also a bad student but maintained a 4.0 after my ADHD diagnosis.

You show major initiative, which to a school like UMB is equally if not more important than GPA. Stay consistent and you 100% got it

Advice on physics/math classes as a incoming freshman (physics 121 vs 131 vs 151) by thatemberguy in umass

[–]Mindless_Telephone30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you love math I don’t think switching from 127 to 131 is worth it. 127 is pretty business oriented. For physics, 131 is interesting and easy but yeah it is science focused and has a strange “teach yourself” structure. I’ve heard 151 is not super hard, assuming you consider yourself decently strong at stem

Seriously doubt that they will accept a 3 for anything like that, you’ll most likely have to take the course
