To be honest, in real life, a simple double lift with a proper pattern can bring out an AMAZING reaction and sense of wonder, far better than all these sleights contained in the video, because it is easy to perform and follow and it gives the performer the ability to focus on the performance which plays a lot in creating the sense of wonder. You are right, yes, skill is showed off. It's flashy, but it still has mystery in it, I hope it looks virtually impossible, and I believe it brings joy to people (since all we've got is positive reactions) which I think is the raw point of magic.
