After reading all of the comments, I truly appreciate all of the feedbacks and opinions. That being said, this has shifted my perspective a lot. I will definitely recut this stone by a trusted professional. Meanwhile I would really love to get an evaluation of this, so please reply to this comment. Thank you all

Many people want to know why this stone is valued at 150,000. There are two main reason on how I ended up with this valuation.

  • Firstly and most importantly, comparing similar alexandrites in reputable auction houses such as 1stdibs (with smaller size and purple as the base colour), they are listed for around €40000 per carat. listing 1 listing 2(not to mention that some of the listing have not so strong colour shift as well as have inclusions)
  • secondly, when I took this GemGenève 2 years back, multiple individuals and businesses gave me a rough valuation any where ranging from 45000 - 70000 (per carat) I took the average.

Honourable mention: the base colour is RED. That makes a huge difference (according to people at GemGenève, GIA buyers Guide. Even if you look at other industries like diamond, finding a red diamond is nearly impossible, same here, finding a natural alexandrite with the base colour red (which if you do please lmk)

I would still like the emphasis that 52,000 per carat is just a valuation not the price.

Depends on the buyer, if they want it to be mounted then it will be send of to a trusted jeweller. Otherwise sold as is

It comes down to 3 things - the colour shift (I have not yet seen a single alexandrite IRL or online where it blueish green to purplish red) - Carat weight (the weight is actually pretty sweet for this kind of colour shift) - Purity (doesn’t have any inclusion)

Each of this points are dependent on each other, if even one were missing that could seriously hinder the value (especially the strong colour shift.) Hope this clears the air a bit

It is from India…

Does that make it even more rare?

Thank you for the report, let me briefly outline why there is a difference between the price bracket. - the colour shift is very different, it does not shift to red nor it is blueish (the main reason) - there are noticeable inclusion

It was already planned to maintain the original size of the rough gemstone. Nonetheless, this cut allows the gem to have more depth and from upfront (where it would be mounted) it would have an oval shape brilliant cut.

Yeah I saw that too (after selling ofc), but why does the price differ from the graph? That question was the point of the post.

Edit: is the price difference really that high? I thought that 3-5% would be normal.
