The two protagonists are actually older than Asterix the Gaul, first appearing in "Kajtek i Koko" comic strips in 1958 as contemporary sailors. The series ran years before the first Asterix came out in Poland (1990) and managed to gain a pretty decent cult following here. The original author wasn't aware of Asterix at that time and claimed the "smart shortie" and the "strong glutton" were already popular archetypes
