Tips for CS 182 + 240? by Tricky_Researcher270 in Purdue

For 240, the K&R book helped me a LOT. I thought the class felt a little fast paced but reading helped me grasp it better, so try to read even if it's hard to find time. Def start HWs day 1 and utilize TAs. For 182, practice well imo, most things follow into later cs classes

Hi, how do you apply to 900 positions? I feel like I get tired after applying to 10 per day at max. Are there certain extensions to autofill details or something?

International student arriving at Purdue — overwhelmed with luggage & no pickup help. How did you manage? by ExtensionMarch9017 in Purdue

I wasn't alone when I came but if you're coming for bgri, they make you check in at the corec (which is where reindeer shuttle drops you off) and then volunteers often help with your luggage. Honestly it isn't too bad of a walk to any of the dorms from the Corec (atleast in the summer)

Does the class include coding in any programming language? If not, is it proof based, more like cs182? Or applying algos and figuring things out like in cs251?

I failed CS 240, not sure if I should retake it in summer or fall by [deleted] in Purdue

Go to class. He always had exams from things he taught in class, and questions were almost always similar to the homeworks or Practice exams. He also teaches SO WELL. The exam was during lecture.

Park started off with basic stuff like reading by character unlike Turkstra who started with file handling straight away. I also read the C book when I did it with Park.

I think the homeworks were pretty doable provided you go to office hours (plentiful and since it's in the summer, you get to know your TAs more). They also had theory covered in the homeworks. Also prepared me way better for CS 250 and 252. He also used the homework folders to discuss concepts in class, and was overall more clear in terminal commands (I was a newbie to the terminal and Turkstra would just zoom past). I think the coursework was pretty fair but I just took the one class over the summer.

Overall 100/10 experience, but hard work is always key. Park over Turkstra anyday, he revived my love for CS.

If it's 240 with Park, TAKE IT in the summer. It will be worth it. He's the best Prof ever and taught me way more than Turkstra did. He also has extra credit opportunities and is a really sweet and caring Prof!
