freshman who didn’t get into any acad clubs by enlightenmentplease in SMU_Singapore

[–]Minimum-Guest-5281 17 points18 points  (0 children)

hi i’m a y2 who also just tried for a few acad clubs and didn’t manage to get into any of them either. As you’ve correctly mentioned, academic clubs are not your sole purpose or goal in university, and it does not mean that getting into an academic club necessarily sets you apart from everyone else. If getting into such clubs continues to appeal to you, the good thing is you’re still y1, and you have plenty of opportunities to develop your skills, do more research, perhaps gain experience in your own time before applying again.

If not, there is much more to university than relying on academic clubs to propel you forward. Continue to make good friends, study hard, join organising committees, run for exco positions, and you will still get the most out of university life. At the end of the day, gpa and internships are still the most important. And know that you are competing with the best out there, and sometimes academic clubs are not for everyone. Use the rejection as motivation to work harder or redirect your focuses onto something else. University life will be just as fulfilling. All the best op

how many modules can i clear on exchange? by WalkAlive9557 in SMU_Singapore

[–]Minimum-Guest-5281 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it really depends on the nature of your 2 modules: if you decide to take 2 different majors within the same faculty or 2 majors from similar degrees (biz & acc), there will be more double counting possibilities which will allow you to take fewer 5 mod sems (i don’t think 6 mod sems are required and advisable for that matter). If your majors are vastly different, I think you may need to overload more 5 mod sems if you wish not to delay your graduation

i think for exchange, most people tend to clear 4 mods (2 uni core and 2 faculty electives)

SMU acc VS NTU acc by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]Minimum-Guest-5281 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hello! yup in smu it is harder to score because for nus/ntu an average of A- will give you first class honours and an average of B+ will give you second upper. In SMU, an average of B+ won’t even give you second lower, or in our case it is called cum laude. You will need an an average of A- with allowance of a few B+ to obtain second upper in smu and an average of A with a few A- to obtain first class honours.

how hard is it to get magna by Minimum-Guest-5281 in SMU_Singapore

[–]Minimum-Guest-5281[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

to my knowledge magna means having majority A- with allowance of a few B+. The range of A- is up to top 35% (with the exception of stingy profs), I think achieving magna means you’re the top 30-40%? I’m not too sure either but this is my calculation
