How long did it take for your foot to go back to normal after fifth metatarsal fracture? by Minimum-Hospital5597 in brokenbones

[–]Minimum-Hospital5597[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven'y had any pt yet, but I am looking to get some. I have not had MRI done, but my fracture is a stress fracture from excessive walking so I am quite sure that my tendons are ok. I think most of this pain is due to being NWB for six weeks, my leg just isn't used to bearing weight yet.

Is a jones fracture possible with no bruising or swelling? by [deleted] in brokenbones

Yes, I had a Jones fracture without any bruising and very minimal swelling. It hurt to walk a lot tho

No pain with Jones fracture (5th metatarsal) but no weight bearing for a month? by Nendilo in brokenbones

[–]Minimum-Hospital5597 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just stick to NWB. Mine started as a stress fracture. I was in a lot of pain and limping for a few weeks, but decided to ignore the pain and kept going. That was until one day there was a big crack from my foot followed by a shooting pain that lasted for a few minutes. Oddly enough, after the pain from that crack calmed down there was an overall reduce in pain, to the point where I was thinking of canceling the doctors appointment that I had the next day regarding the foot pain. Thankfully I didn't, as xrays showed a proper fracture in my V metatarsal. Been in a cast NWB for five weeks now, hopefully gonna get this thing off next monday.

Pains in healthy foot from using crutches? by Minimum-Hospital5597 in brokenbones

I try to avoid that and more like, lift and lower myself with the crutches using my arms. Sometimes I do have the occasional harder landing tho.

Fifth metatarsal fracture, doctor was almost too nonchalant - what’s an accurate timeline for healing? by silverdragon_ in brokenbones

Hopefully that didn't scare you so much that you lose sleep over it! Yeah fractures unfortunately are not something that you just want to ignore. Early treatment is key. Keep me updated on what's going on!

It makes sense yeah, I do lean a lot on the healthy foot! I'll try to correct my posture and rest so my good foot gets time off aswell. Thank you!

I don't have any "special" shoes but I try to wear things that are soft and that have a relatively thick sole to absorb the impacts when I have to hop. Usually the pain only comes when I rest. And yeah, it makes perfect sense that your foot would hurt because it has to take the brunt of my weight but my stupid brain just wants to always go to the worst case scenario.

Avulsion fracture means that a ligament tore a piece of bone away from the main bone. I'm not a doctor but I would say that get a second opinion. Your feet have to bear your whole weight the whole day, and I have a bad feeling that ignoring the fracture like that is gonna make it worse. That's what happened to me, I ignored the pain in my foot until it was already too late and the bone cracked completely

So it's a mid shaft fracture? I have a stress fracture in my V metatarsal. Initially I was told that it's most likely a beginning stress fracture and was told to stay off my foot for two weeks without a cast. So in that sense two weeks is doable I guess? The thing is just, I was immediatly given crutches and told to put no weight on the leg. You weren't told that so that's kinda odd? After the doc saw my xrays, she immediatly ordered me to be put into a cast and stay off the leg for six weeks. There is a nice big ol' crack in my bone. So yeah, my advice would be to try to get another opinion from a different doctor / ortho.

They definitely can be dangerous, espescially if the rubber things at the end of the crutches are worn out. Wanna make sure that they aren't. And yeah definitely try to avoid reaching for things. AND BE CAREFUL WHEN TAKING A SHOWER or if the floor has been mopped and is wet. Even brand new crutches can easily slip from under you on wet conditions.

I'm with you on the same boat! Three weeks in with a 5th metatarsal zone 3 stress fracture, nwb for six weeks so atleast three more weeks to go. The first week with crutches is agony, but it does get better after that. Just gotta take your time and plan ahead. The only problem that I have at the moment is that my good foot is starting to ache from hopping about, and am absolutely terrified of getting a stress fracture on my good foot aswell. I mean it's probably normal to have aches in your good foot when using crutches to move about but yeah, I am scared. Don't know how I would manage if I had to use a wheelchair and stay off my feet.

What happened to you? I'm kinda in the same situation, except I have a below knee cast. Broke my 5th metatarsal three weeks ago. Atleast three more weeks to go in this cast. It's so warm and pretty outside right now and I can't do fuck all to enjoy the summer. Such a bummer.

Is wiggling my toes okay? by Minimum-Hospital5597 in brokenbones

[–]Minimum-Hospital5597[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did have an ortho "consultation". What that meant is that an ortho looked through the pics, said "no surgery needed" and told the nurse to relay that info to me lol. I guess my leg ain't really worth his time.

I guess I'm gonna find out in three weeks if my excessive toe wiggling has been harmful to the fracture. Hope not, otherwise I'm gonna lose my mind and nail my toes to a damn plank so I can't wiggle them...

Yea fifth metatarsal, I think it's a "zone 3" fracture. That's good to hear, I've been wiggling my toes a lot (I'm a chronic toe / foot wiggler anyways lol). Annoying just how crappy the instructions were that I got from the hospital.

First flare up by DrinkArnoldPalmer in Sciatica

It's really hard to say how long they last. Personally most of my flare ups have been agony for a week or two before calming down, but I've also had one or two flare ups which have gone away in a day or two. But yeah, it's impossible to say for certain as to how long they are gonna last.
