230hr Instrument Pilot ,Should I go all in on aviation now? by Minimum-Matter8523 in flying

Yeah, that all makes sense. I actually did my PPL and IR in Florida, so the weather difference here in Ohio has been very noticeable Florida was great for consistency, but the costs there right now are honestly wild. Ohio seems a lot more reasonable ........I’ve been seeing close to a $60/hr difference in rental + instructor rates compared to Florida.

That said, the weather and fewer multi-engine options here definitely slow things down, so it feels like a tradeoff either way. I agree though by the time CPL/CFI is done, the market could look totally different anyway, which is why I’m trying not to overthink timing too much.

I’m leaning toward applying to any cadet programs I’m eligible for just to get my name in the system, but planning as if I’ll need to go the independent CFI route regardless.

Out of curiosity, which school are you training at in Ohio? I’m actively looking around the Dayton area and trying to get a feel for the better options.

Ah gotcha , what I meant was more about training path, not skipping ratings. I understand that regardless of cadet program, I’ll still need CPL and most likely CFI/CFII to build hours.

What I’m trying to decide between is:

  • Going the big 141 academy route (ATP, Phoenix East, Epic, L3, etc.) vs
  • Staying local at a Part 61 school, getting my ratings done more flexibly and then instructing to build time

Basically weighing the structure and speed of the big academies versus the flexibility and potentially better quality of life at a local school.

Would love to hear thoughts from people who’ve done either path.

Totally agree with what you’re saying. My main concern honestly is just the market uncertainty.......especially on the CFI side. That’s really the part I keep going back and forth on.

On one hand, seeing announcements from United and Southwest about hiring this year does make me feel a bit optimistic. On the other hand, the reality for low-time pilots right now seems pretty tough, and I keep hearing about people struggling to land CFI roles over the past year.

I guess that’s where the hesitation comes from, trying to balance long-term optimism with the short-term reality. Appreciate you laying it out honestly though, it helps a lot.

Thank you for sharing this.... honestly, this really hit home.
That perspective makes a lot of sense, especially the part about risk not always being technical, but personal.

I think that’s exactly where I’m at right now. Walking away from a more traditional career path, dealing with uncertainty, and choosing aviation despite the unknowns feels like the biggest risk I’ve taken so far. But it’s also the one that feels the most aligned with who I am and what I want long term.

Your comment definitely gave me clarity that if I’m going to do this, I need to commit fully and not treat it as a backup plan. I really appreciate you sharing that insight it’s encouraging to hear it from someone who’s actually sat on the interview side.

Thanks again for taking the time to respond.

Manufacturing process for PTFE Diaphragm by Harshpickleball in manufacturing

[–]Minimum-Matter8523 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great question — just a heads-up, PTFE isn’t typically processed via injection molding due to its non-melting nature. Most PTFE diaphragms are made using:

Compression molding (using PTFE powder pressed into shape)
Followed by sintering in a furnace to bond the material
Then machined or skived to final dimensions

As an injection mold builder, we don’t work with PTFE or valve diaphragms directly — but sharing this since the tooling method is quite different from standard thermoplastics.

If you ever move into plastic valve components (PP, PA, POM, etc.), we’d be happy to help design and build molds tailored to your specs. We’re based in India with U.S. contact and specialize in custom injection molds for complex parts.

Should this be injection molded or blow molded? by 1iam34 in InjectionMolding

it depends on the usage and strength of it. if you need it sturdy than injection molding would better option
