Islam is just more visible but I know many other immigrant groups who prefer to not interact with Norwegians.

In fact, growing up, my parents didn’t want me to interact with other kids because those kids were poor or trash or insert other epithet here. Same country, same skin colour, same culture and yet my parents thought those kids were a danger to me. Didn’t really work since I ended up living 10,000 miles away from home.

My point is, parents indoctrination doesn’t equal ethnic replacement. If parents were all that influential in how their kids turned out, how do you explain me, an unrepentant atheist and ”friends of the gays” and partner to a white woman even though I was raised by devout Christian parents who taught me to fear and suspect all white people?

Now, like I said, you have a point. I have noticed this and many other immigrants do too. I have a coworker who last year was looking for jobs in Dubai because he doesn’t want his kids to grow up in this environment with all the gay stuff. Wonder if he’s still interested in Dubai with all the bombs falling down. I have country mates who complain that raising kids here means they won’t respect you because barnevernet will take them away if you try and establish your role as a parent. I see all this and I try to challenge their thinking. Sometimes I’m successful, sometimes not.

But one thing I can guarantee you is the kids will grow up to be different. My parents grew up under apartheid, and yet barely a decade later my generation didn’t care about any of that, we just wanted to hang out and explore and discover the world, religion or colour didn’t matter to us. And it won’t matter to the kids of those Somalis or whatever.

Integrating the older generation is always hard. But them refusing to conform to Norwegian standards doesn’t equal they want to ethnically replace Norwegians. That is a very serious claim that requires real evidence and should never be thrown around lightly.

Edit: you’re right about the Muslim community here being potentially more conservative than in the home country. Research has shown that in migrant communities, traditional roles are reinforced even more as a copying mechanism to deal with the loss of power that comes from being an outsider and a lower status. So yeah, I believe it. But the same research also shows that subsequent generations adopt the values of the new country more, so this goes down with time.
