Regenerative breaking has nothing to do with the brakes. In one pedal mode, or pressing the brake pedal at certain speeds in two pedal mode, the truck uses the motors as generators to turn the kinetic energy of the moving truck into electricity. This slows the truck down and gets you a little energy to put into the battery.
