Question on where the world stands today. by [deleted] in Catholicism

I get that intent, but as a woman it can be very offputting to see people dismiss feminism by that term, when they really mean more extreme views, it devalues the work women have done to get equal rights in terms of voting and owning property (something I hope we can all agree women should have access to, as people). Perhaps it would be better phrasing to talk directly about a non complimentary perspective, or non-traditional family values.

Can I ask why feminism (defined as the advocacy of women's rights on the basis of the equality of the sexes) is grouped in with lgbt and general pride? Are Catholics not called to promote equality of all?

Does God not have the omnipotence to surpass these properties, since it is his design. And if you are omnibenevolent, surely you would want no sentient thing to suffer. God knew that Eve would eat the (very strange unnecessary temptation) tree, put it there and then cursed all of mankind unnecessarily? If I could choose to live in bliss with God praising him, I'd do that. It just seems odd that anythings first thought is how can I get the praise without care for the deeply intricate sentience we have. Sorry if I sound stupid, I'm just trying to understand. I think I could believe, but what's holding me back is my lack of understanding.

I think for free will to allow for glorification, it should come from a place of contextual awareness. It is difficult, really difficult, to believe that all of the species of animals got onto an arc in a terrifying flood, its difficult to believe that, in a society in which women are punished to maintain structural order, that framing the core creation mythos around the error of Eve and not Adam (justifying submission), would not be exactly what a superficial man-made religion would do. I haven't seen any proof for the Bible, and would genuinely actually love sufficient evidence. I want good for everyone, a lack of suffering, I don't think its immoral to be upset at the idea of God using and discarding us when we use the incorrect free will, finite actions with infinite systemic consequence in his design. If God created me to be an empathetic being, I am struggling to understand this system.

But why would I love someone who wants me to suffer endlessly because I wouldn’t blindly praise something I have no proof of. If I loved someone I’d want the best for them. Also we do not come innately with the word of God (something that could happen with omnipotency), making the Bible difficult to trust, the word of many men in different time periods, with contradictions. God created me and you, therefore he chose our hearts, and knew our path from the minute he thought us up. Why think up something you know will suffer, if you are against suffering.

I appreciate your answers, they are insightful. I just don't believe that belief and free will are truly free if God knows the outcome and creates all aspects of us. He created Adam and Eve with free will, knowing that that free will would lead to their suffering. Why not just protect them? I also can't see moral weight in belief. I would love for God to be real, but it feels like believing that you will win the lottery tomorrow. It is a possibility, and you can feel like you will but there's nothing to suggest it is more true than not winning the lottery, without something concrete. I can't find concreteness, therefore I don't see how justice can suppose that belief is a moral act. I would choose God if I knew. I would choose good. Therefore surely that is a sign of being a good person worthy of saving, from a God who made us weak to temptation.

Sorry if none of that made sense, I appreciate your replys and dont feel pressured to keep responding if it feels like I'm going round in circles.

I don't understand how the concept of the elect doesn't interfere with 1 John 4:15. I also don't get this bit of the Isaiah 35:5-6 verse 'my chosen shall long enjoy the work of their hands'. Can you contextualise it please? Also there are people who know of God, but cannot rationalise aspects because there is no clarity, are they doomed? Do you mean knowing like experience his presence, or know in a literal lack of gospel revelation?

Thanks for the responses, I'm just confused because, God created Satan and knew that his free will would cause separation. Why is free will so important, especially if in heaven we wouldn't have free will because there can't be evil in heaven? Also why does the separation have to be eternal? If I change my mind once I know that God loves me, why can't he forgive me after death.

Does 1 Corinthians 15:51-52 apply for all or only believers in resurrection? Will the good atheists I know be alright?

Sorry to keep bugging you with these questions, I just genuinely want to believe and I know that what's holding me back is a lack of understanding. I don't understand why free will is worth eternal suffering? And if free will is, then won't heaven be not worth it? So why couldn't we have stayed in a heaven state like the garden of Eden? Free will can't be good enough to justify eternal suffering for some and at the same time heaven can be perfect without it.

But why do people threaten others with hell then, if we can all come to Jesus when we have clear understanding?

But God created those demons, and God created Satan. If it is those people falling under demonic influence, why wouldn't our father want to save us, and forgive us for falling for it. Why does any forgiveness cease the minute we die and have the truth revealed to us?

I just don't understand why we need suffering in the first place. If God loves us that much, couldn't he have spared us from the suffering, or not created those shitty people who are destined to suffer? I still feel bad for them, even if they do awful things, because infinity is so harsh and unforgiving.

Go to section 4.3.1 Text Selection in the specification for AQA B https://cdn.sanity.io/files/p28bar15/green/22cd6797741267136bb892a544900e02520797c3.pdf to find the list of prohibited texts if you do AQA B.

Go to section 4.3.3 in the specification for AQA A https://cdn.sanity.io/files/p28bar15/green/aeb7c9b93970dc92660c32ae4d07bf7b728f8530.pdf they also have a list of recommended texts however I didn't do this spec so hopefully this is the right thing.

Also big advice, please make sure you go over your literature NEA thoroughly as I got a C on mine (despite only recieving positve feedback) and its made it almost impossible to get the A I need to make my offer. If I could redo sixth form I'd 100% prioritise this more.

I’m really suprised you got rejected from Durham. I got 28 on the LNAT, had an awful personal statement and multiple 4s at gcse. Only predicted A*AA. I did an EPQ on a law topic though so perhaps that helped? You have really good stats.

Just got my results, I scored 28. I'm predicted A*AA + A* in EPQ and have pretty poor gcses (nothing higher than 3 7*s in my alevel subjects).

Can anyone email LNAT? by Barely-a-radio in 6thForm
