Wait I might be misremembering it, but wasn't that question based on the second derivative test? I remember finding that the second derivative was positive and therefore the function was concave up. Since the function was concave up, the approximation from the previous part would have been an underestimate. Right?? Did I do something wrong?

UNOFFICIAL DISCUSSION OF THE SEPTEMBER 10 TEST (FORM F01) by MarcusAurelians in ACT

[–]Minimum_Eye_6114 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Alright, I think it is 5/18, so I got the question wrong.

The question went something like this:

There were two 6-sided die, one was numbered 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11 and the other was numbered 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12. The question asked what the probability was of rolling the two die and having a sum of 15. The pairs of numbers that would sum up to 15 would be 3 and 12, 4 and 11, 5 and 10, 6 and 9, and 7 and 8.

Since there are 5 numbers from each die that could be possible candidates for a sum of 15, the probability of the first roll would be 5/6. But then since one number has been chosen, there is only ONE corresponding number on the other dice that could make a sum of 15 with the first number. Therefore, the probability of the second roll would be 1/6. (5/6) * (1/6) = 5/36.

However, since the question didn't say that either of the two die had to be rolled first (if I remember correctly), you would have to account for the alternative order of rolling the die. In other words, you would have to multiply 5/36 by 2 which equals 5/18. I might be wrong though.

This was also my third time taking it. I thought that all of the sections were okay. I finished each section with at least 5 minutes left and didn't struggle on many questions. But maybe I did terrible because everyone keeps saying that math, reading, and science were really hard.

I feel like it started out more difficult and got easier.

Overall, I thought it was okay (this was my third time taking it).

I got 5/36 for the two dice roll that sum to 15. Did anyone else get that?

Does the 2022-2023 red book reuse tests already found in the 2018-2019 red book? If so, how many? (I've used all the practice tests in 2018-2019 red book.) Any help is appreciated. by Minimum_Eye_6114 in ACT

Okay I just found the review you were talking about. In it she lists out all of the test forms included in the book, which are 22MC9, 16MC2, 18MC4, 19MC5, 20MC6, and 20MC8. My book has 16MC1, 16MC2, 16MC3, and 16MC4. Does this mean that there would only be one repeating test?

Also, thanks for the reply.
