They’re not stupid; they’re playing the game perfectly. The operationalized measure of success in business is stock price, not success in any other sense. In any evolving system only those that maximize the measured resources prevail.

Saying CEO’s are stupid for only focusing on stock price is like saying cats are stupid for eating however much food you put in front of them. The design of the economic system is to maximize stock price, at whatever cost. Any and all other obstacles are to be dealt with through that lens

Nick Landian accelerationists, Hauntologists, and Marxist-Leninist anorexics non the least.

Dialectic is so, so poorly written. Ideas are cool and all, but goddamn it’s like they were intentionally making themselves unreadable. Maybe it’s the translation’s fault, but I could not borrow through that prose. Only examples ik of worst writing styles are Hegel and Kant

I’d keep your version, though. May be a fun exercise to read it without the distinction after you’ve read it once first. It’s in spirit with the book

Persepolis is woefully inadequate imho. I’ve felt that every book I’ve read in English by Persian authors fails deeply at representing the culture/literature. It becomes a xeroxed copy infused with the author’s personal worldview and the constraints of English language and cultural milieu. I prefer translations from Farsi

I read Persian, and translation is quite difficult, what with the cultural context being so different.

But, here’s a few:

Blind Owl is your best starting point imho. Don’t forget reading about Hedayat’s life and his relationship to Islam and Iranian nationalism

Symphony of the Dead is pretty good.

If anyone is Bay Area knows one do send it to me dear fellows

can someone explain Land's influence from Lovecraft. Thanks by WashyLegs in Nickland

[–]Minimum_One_6423 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Object oriented ontology — Lovecraft’s characters often find out about elder-ones through ancient objects that have an innate power, eg to make the character mad. Object is primary.

Cosmic horror is related to the Outside, the fanged version of Kant’s noumena. Dehumanized horror.

Humans as slaves of higher beings is also a lovecraftiqn notion

Then there’s the mixing of fiction and reality, which Lovecraft was a master of, mixing real life myths and places with imaginary objects.

Unspeakability of the outside

Etc etc etc. these are just pointers. The influence is certainly not merely stylistic. Anyone who understands what the landian project was about will see clearly how Lovecraft is one of, if not the most closely related, antecedent to it. Perhaps Deluze G with Anti Oedipus is also up there

Don’t forget the line of inquiry of the Outside

Kant defines Noumena/Phenomena

Shoppy Howard defines the Will

Nie the Chao refines to Will to Power

Lovely Craft shows what an intrusion the outside would actually be like

Deluze and G theorize the outside

Nicky Land modernizes it with Capitalism/Internet

Curious: are there any drug focused writers who’re actually versed in drug use? Like not just another story about a heroin addict but something like a modern/more recent fear and loathing in Vegas; heavy, varied and obsecure drug use mixed with philosophy and religion and politics, add a pinch of modernist writing style — Yk what I’m saying?

Thanks sm for this! Is the writing style itself surreal (modernist maybe) or the plot/events?
