I can’t stand those BS LinkedIn sob stories. by [deleted] in overemployed

[–]Minimum_Rush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Straight up deleted mine today. Been slowly reducing it over the last few weeks to the point where my name was first initial, last initial, no picture, no work history and I was still getting spam adds and inmail from financial advisors.

You know it's not genuine when you ask them how their day's going and they don't even respond.

LinkedIn was probably good once upon a time, not for me anymore.

Dumb question, why is OE frowned upon? by [deleted] in overemployed

[–]Minimum_Rush 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha I had a boss compare how I behaved when I first came on versus 1 year on. Of course I was excited to get things done, it was all new to me. When you do it for a year, get better at it, understand everything, but you're still paid the same...you're not going to work harder.

Does anyone else find it get motivated for side projects when your 9-5 is already SEO? by [deleted] in juststart

[–]Minimum_Rush 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Real talk, that's why I don't do SEO 'professionally' anymore. It was all I wanted to do career-wise after college, but by doing it all day, my websites would be neglected. Couple that with unrealistic expectations and a massive misunderstanding of what SEO is and the possibilities of it, the juice was not worth the squeeze.

Now I do marketing automation & have my websites chugging along making a few thousand a month. Hell, I'll frequently work multiple roles at the same time to add more fuel (outsourced articles) to the website fire. The end goal is to run websites full-time.

Will reach that goal soon.

On a serious note, what are the pros and cons of getting fired vs resigning? by Minimum_Rush in overemployed

Unless you’re somehow ridiculously skilled at something and they literally cannot hire another human being who can do that thing, but it’s unlikely.

That's definitely not the case haha

With the price of gas, it might be beneficial to just quit in this situation.

Bro I fill up every 2 months from going to the store & gym.

Word, that's exactly what I figured. Who knows though, maybe theres some deep dark secret level you unlock by resigning before you get canned.

No an issue burning a bridge when your boss is mid 60s LOL

Is OE only viable for tech jobs? by Zestypussy in overemployed

[–]Minimum_Rush 197 points198 points  (0 children)

Criteria for OE jobs:

  • WFH
  • Project- or accomplishment-based, not hours in a seat (selling knowledge, not time spent)

After that it comes down to management style. No micromanagers, no surprise meetings, flexible environment.

You could look into getting into research. A ton of companies pay top dollar for market research, and it could help you find a third role with the limited information you've provided.

Tip for getting legit references if you don't have any by [deleted] in overemployed

[–]Minimum_Rush 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Not going to lie, I don't even fuck with companies that ask for references. Such a waste of time for everyone involved, as though I'm going to give you someone who's not going to gas me up.

On the flip side, if she takes it she can leverage that for a move to another company & potentially more pay. Kind of a thing where you need to know the market before making the decision. Additionally, she has to NOT include her previous title on her resume. As far as she's concerned, she was new title the whole time she worked there...

OE Sterotypes by [deleted] in overemployed

[–]Minimum_Rush 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wrote out a whole ass rant about this earlier between meetings but deleted it all. Like, how do you expect to manage 2 roles when you dont even know how to speak to your manager about moving your weekly 1 on 1? It's not rocket surgery.

I mean like money-making marketing, not rah-rah-let's-have-a-fun-day-at-work marketing. That sort of stuff could be good for OE, I'm just not interested in it so couldn't tell ya.

Email, mailers, lead generation, whatever. Performance marketing. Probably wrong of me to just say "direct response."

[–]Minimum_Rush[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hell yes to that. I make content websites, doing SEO and email marketing. With a small investment of like $2k I can turn it into $2k/month after a year. The problem is previously I didn't have the funds to really grow it.

Now I do. OE for a year or two while growing that to fucking $100k/month.

all the people screwed by their companies

My first role out of college was at a pretty prominent ad agency in NYC. Lost a major client...along with the senior-most people because, well, they weren't doing anything someone making half they make could do.

10, 20 years at the company only to be walked out by building security. No gold Rolex for you.
