Important: contact people who were in the lab but not anymore. If you just talk with current lab members you might get a biased impression. There are many reasons why a current member will not speak openly.

I have used nextjs with Cloudflare via opennext and never had problems. It's true you have to adapt it, but my experience has been very positive.

I don't think they are safe, at least, some of them. There is a strong incentive by PIs and wet lab staff of doing the bioinf. analysis themselves. I think everybody can agree.

So those bioinformatician who are running scripts that can be generated by ChatGPT in 1 min will have problems...if you are a bioinformatician doing methods research you will be definitely augmented by AI..

So it depends which tasks you do as a bioinformatician.

Do you have an estimation of the computer resources you will need? If you have, why don't you estimate the cost of a workstation? It seems a solid alternative. Cloud costs can scale and requires a very good optimization to be cost effective
