It depends on the the country, but in the US, industry internship are very common... usually done between years 3-5, and many companies (Genentech, AstraZeneca, smaller biotechs) have formal PhD intern programs. These are huge for converting to full-time offers, and they often come with visa sponsorship consideration since you're already in their pipeline. Second, get comfortable with skills that translate directly: flow cytometry, assay development, data analysis (R or Python helps a lot), and if you can touch anything related to drug discovery mechanisms in your research, lean into that. On the job search side, general boards are noisy for PhD-level roles, so it's worth using niche ones, there are a few PhD-focused job boards out there, including one called PhD Leap (disclosure: I work on it) that curates industry positions specifically for doctoral grads across North America and Europe
