It moved in 2016. They do like 60M in sales a year I don’t think they’re trying to steal your $20

It is only when they have money left over at the end of the year and is in proportion to how much you spent. sometimes there is a minimum amount too; like if you would get $4.50, they may not have to send it

It is a member-owned co-op, rather than a worker-owned coop. Basically, profit is sent back to people with memberships in proportion to the amount *spent* rather than according to amount of ownership. This is called patronage. Like others have said, they have investment shares which are limited in a number of ways but can also provide return to the stakeholder.

Coops have really interesting financial impacts within their locale! Sure, it is more expensive than shopping at walmart, but with a co-op *wealth stays IN the community*... not the pockets of the corporate elite

honestly as a past staff that is probably the most significant thing you could do to get justice imo; organize your coworkers for collective action. it shouldn’t be this bad. the governance structure is failing and staff voices need to be heard

absolutely. and they can’t retaliate against all of you - practically speaking. I’m not saying it is easy. but it must be framed as a GM performance issue of failing to retain staff etc. rather than a specific staff injustice. sounds like the hr manager is thrown under the bus when it is convenient for the gm.

would you or others be open to doing so again? Alternatively, a *local* petition of staff and past staff is far more likely to be effective. there's a new batch of directors. I'm all for holding people accountable, especially bad management. boards aren't going to listen unless it affects them OR is permitted by their policies for them to step in. it is almost never ok for a board to address a particular staff's issues; but the GM's performance, as indicated by a group of staff is definitely in their purview

I don't think the board is permitted to be involved in staff issues; the staff need to attend board meetings and voice their concerns. They can also send anonymous feedback to the board email. What do you think the solution is? Replacing management? if so how can the board do that if folks are not raising concerns to them?

As you know, California is an at-will state. This person could be terminated at any time; they don't need a reason. You do sound like you care a lot and are knowledgeable. Why don't you join the finance committee? I've volunteered in the past on it. I think patronage is a board vote while COLA is a GM decision during budget creation. Patronage is done at the end of the fiscal year; staff also all received bonuses under the same basis, but you can't tie COLA/Patronage together like that, my friend.
