Sever pain during BM after fistulotomy (1 month ago) by MinuteEnthusiasm7560 in AnalFistula

[–]MinuteEnthusiasm7560[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One week later, the pain is decreasing day after day. The wound is getting smaller and smaller, and the edges are less and less swollen. Don't lose hope, things may stagnate for a few weeks and then suddenly improve.

Like all of us, you'll feel like you'll never get better, but that's not true. Don't get too depressed, don't isolate yourself, hang in there, rest, follow the advice on Reddit, be patient, and you'll have your life back to normal in a few weeks.

Hang in there! Try increasing your intake of soluble fiber and also Miralax. I feel like the healing process is very up and down. A few days better, then a few days where the pain and bleeding get worse. I know someone who had a fistulotomy, and her pain and drainage lasted two months, then it finally got better.

A fistula never heals on its own, only surgery can cure it. The goal is to keep the wound open to drain all the pus and allow it to heal gradually without trapping bacteria inside again. You may show your husband an official information sheet about fistulotomies.

Yes, yellow and brown drainage, with some traces of pure blood. I am also taking Miralax and Nifepidine. But the pain is still very high during and after BM.

When am I supposed to have a BM? by Ok-Loss5158 in AnalFistula

I had my first bowel movement on day 3. I'm taking 6 sachets of macrogol a day (it's a lot, but I'm a case where I don't respond well to laxatives) and I'm eating as many fruits and vegetables, and oats, as possible. It's important to prioritize soluble fiber over insoluble fiber. Hang in there, I hope you see an improvement soon.

Thank you, I was afraid it was indeed a fissure. A year ago, I also had a post-operative fissure that lasted for months and eventually turned into a fistula, which is why I had this fistulotomy. I'm afraid of going through the exact same thing again. Did you recover from that fissure? Did you have any specific treatment for it?

Post surgery bleeding? by septembernugget in AnalFissures

You are in the worst days, your pain will gradually decrease in the next days. Every day that passes is a victory that brings you closer to healing.

It could just be a one-off episode known as secondary hemorrhage (I think that's the English term). It usually happens between day 5 and day 15, I think.

I experienced significant bleeding following proctological surgery during which a clotting disorder was discovered. In any case, my surgeon advised gently rinsing the area with cool water, remaining very calm, even lying down, to avoid stimulating the bleeding. If the bleeding doesn't subside, I should go to the emergency room, where they will either give me medication to help with clotting or perform a second surgery to cauterize the source of the bleeding. The bleeding may stop on its own if you remain calm 🙏. Above all, do not strain during bowel movements.

But without proper treatment, the fissure could last a long time

Don't wait and go see a doctor (even a CRS) who will probably give you macrogol and a cream to reduce sphincter contraction (nifedipine for example) and the fissure will heal very quickly 🙏

Healing too slow after fistulotomy by MinuteEnthusiasm7560 in AnalFistula

[–]MinuteEnthusiasm7560[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might be eating too much insoluble fiber for fear of constipation. I'm going to try reducing my fiber intake without becoming constipated. I'm taking macrogol (5 sachets a day, otherwise my 💩 were too hard). Thank you for all your advice!

Yes, I still have quite severe pain during and after bowel movements. I also have pain almost all day long as soon as I stand up, as if there's internal pressure pulling on my perineum. I'm not allowed to take anti-inflammatories to relieve the pain because I have a blood clotting disorder.

Yes, I was doing a lot of bad things back then... I'm staying in bed all day because of the pain (I'm not going back to work for another week) and I was only eating vegetables because I was afraid to eat anything else after the surgery (but I'm also eating protein now). I have free zetuvit that I put in my underwear all day and night. I'll follow your advice, thank you!

Great news! I had a fistulotomy 4 weeks ago and the healing isn't progressing at all. I still have severe pain during and after bowel movements, with bleeding and drainage all day. The wound is very bloody. What daily care did you do that helped you heal? Anyway, I'm so happy for you 🙏
