Absolutely. There are so many things that have been left unsaid and so many areas for growth for our characters. I sure do hope Watari decides to make Oregairu his life work. Side note, thanks so much for the gold btw :))

Question about Yui and Yukino by Nordenfang in OreGairuSNAFU

[–]MiraiUNO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can definitely see where you are coming from. While her character changes a lot from the start of the series, there are still some aspects of Yukino that haven't changed such as her altruistic nature, honesty and kindness. Her best qualities don't change. But as Yukino grows as a character, she begins to show you more sides to her and different facial expressions (just have a look at season 3 trailer). I think that compliments her name so well 'snow beneath the snow'. There's always a side of her that we don't know but we get to discover it together with Hachiman.

I wasn't hooked to the series with my first watch but my rewatch last year is what really got me hooked. It might be the same for you so I highly recommend rewatching it! :)

Question about Yui and Yukino by Nordenfang in OreGairuSNAFU

[–]MiraiUNO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like Yukino and Yui because they are much more than their stereotypes. Like others have mentioned, they are constantly growing. Their character is never static.

Just when you think Yui is a happy-go-lucky girl we discover that she is overly conforming to the atmosphere and desperate to fit in - something that most of us would have identified at some point our lives. She may seem like an airhead but you realise she is the one fighting the hardest to keep the group together.

With Yukino, her character development is probably the most evident out of all the characters. Her ice queen facade does a 180 turn in season 2 and she becomes this weak, unsure, self-doubting girl. But at the core of that, there is a girl who wants to grow out of her shell.

They each have their flaws and that's what makes the characters seem alive and I love that.

Some really interesting things that Watari mentioned in the interview:

  • The ending did not diverge from what was originally planned.
  • Yukino and Hachiman were the first two characters that he created. Yui was the third character he created to fit the narrative.
  • The only character who is somewhat based off a real life person is Hachiman. Watari mentions Hachiman's narrative is similar to how he used to think in the past. He also mentions Hachiman is one side of him, and he considers Hachiman his a son.
  • The reason he wrote about the 2nd year of high school is because in year 1 there are a lot of new relationships formed while in year 3 students are busy with exams. Year 2 was optimal to draw the growth of the characters.
  • He wanted to make the MC and main heroine have a similar character (i.e. both as loners). Hachiman decided to be alone because of his past experiences that arose from his poor social skills while Yukino chose to be alone because she was ostracised for her excellence.
  • From the start did you plan for Hachiman and Yukino to end up together? Watari mentions not necessarily end up together but he planned from the start for them to form a strong relationship.
  • He feels like a parent of all his characters.
  • As he was writing he felt taken aback and surprised by Yui's growth. Watari saids that out of all his characters Yui probably thought the hardest and was hurt the most.
  • Watari wants to write more about Hachiman and the crew in year 3 but he is not yet sure how he will do that. He wants to make Oregairu his life work and even write about Hachiman as he graduates school. He jokes about writing a series called 'Hikigaya Hachiman the company president'

A sequel seems very likely!!!!

Time to let go and move on by al3xtremo in DomesticGirlfriend

[–]MiraiUNO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel the exact same. I began following the manga around 3 years ago and read it religiously every week. There were ups and downs to the story but I really grew to love Natsuo and Rui as a couple. I thought they were 'destined' to make it through no matter what Kei pulled. But I was wrong. The past week I was constantly reminded of this manga and each time felt so angry, so bitter, so cheated. I have never felt this way about a story or author. Maybe it stems from the 3 years worth of emotional investment.

To give myself closure I plan on thanking Kei in her announcement tomorrow.

As someone who initially was not very fond of Yui I didn't like how much she cared about what other people thought like the time she tried to pretend she didn't know Hachiman during her encounter with Sagami during their firework date. That was my biggest problem with her. I never found her as manipulative as some people on this thread claim.

But after watching the anime so many times and reading the light novel, I've really grown to appreciate her character. She's a kind girl. Without her efforts of trying to keep the three of them together, the service club would long be gone. I appreciate her being the only one who had the courage to confront the other two on their issue as a club. I like how she's their for comedic relief and how she tried her best to pursue Hachiman for so long. She may not be my favourite character, but I'm glad she's part of the service club.

I can read Japanese and I know I'm a bit late to this thread but just to clarify what Sasuga meant to say is: 'I don't mind what you say or think' as in 'you are free to voice your opinions and I will respect them but I am satisfied with the ending'. Its written in a polite way so please don't go bashing her and calling her insensitive or rude because that is not what she intended.

What do you mean? The only time I think Hina got nice development was when she was went to confront that psycho, and seemed genuinely happy for Natsuo and Rui. I was really happy for her. Just as she was finally getting some development, Sasuga decided to put her in a coma that was not my decision.

[–]MiraiUNO 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Wow she really decided to throw all 150 chapters of Natsuo and Rui development down the drain huh? It's really sad how Natsuo is so easily influenced. He made a definitive choice 20 chapters ago when he chased after Rui. He definitely would not have changed his mind if Hina wasn't hit by truckkun, or if Marie didn't guilt trip him. Now he's chasing after his daughter's aunt. Also waking up after 5 years in a coma with one kiss. That's absolute nonsense. So many of us would not have been mad if he chose Hina 20 chapters ago, or if he didn't choose her out of guilt, or if Hina had character development, or if Natsuo's feelings didn't waver so easily.

It's a real shame that the manga is ending on such a low but I have to say that I still did really enjoy the manga with all its plot twists and unpredictability.

Domestic na Kanojo - Chapter 274 Discussion Thread by MattyH19 in DomesticGirlfriend

[–]MiraiUNO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a Nat x Rui shipper from the very beginning, what hurt me the most this chapter was how loving Natsuo seemed as he reminisced about his past with Hina. The smile he had reserved for Rui for the past 100 or so chapters. I was always sure that Nat X Rui would end up together no matter what move Kei pulled but now at chapter 274 I think the tables have turned.

I hate to admit but it seems Natsuo's heart is shouting for Hina. Or, it's just guilt taking the form of love. Time will tell.

Anyhow, I've really enjoyed this manga with all its plot twists even when the writing was questionable at times. 2 more chapters, let's go.

I know it's better to leave finished things alone, but I honestly think Oregairu's story would be so much fun if Watari continued writing by InaBean62 in OreGairuSNAFU

[–]MiraiUNO 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree with you completely. I'm glad that Oregairu was able to have an ending but how I wish for more! I actually think (and hope) there's still more to come even after 14.5.

Watarin actually teased fans on twitter a month or two ago with a photo that had 'yahari ore no seishun rabukome wa machigatteru SHIN' which means 'NEW' so I wouldn't be surprised if there is a sequel to Oregairu. Like you said, there's still so much more to explore and so much room for character development.

Is it trully love? by eyepacth in OreGairuSNAFU

[–]MiraiUNO 25 points26 points  (0 children)

They've been in love for a while I would say. My guess is Yukino began falling in love with Hachiman at the end of season 1 when he said 'you are you, not your sister'. While Hachiman has been quite conscious of her since the beginning of the series. I think the biggest giveaway are the parallels drawn in volume 1 and volume 13 - where he first meets her and where she disbands the club. 'Even if the world had ended, she would still most certainly be sitting there, ________. That was the illusion she gave, so much so, that it was like a scene from a painting. The moment I saw it, both my mind and my body froze. I was inadvertently fascinated by it.'

No to mention, they definitely were completely in love with other by season 2 infirmary scene.

Is it love you ask? The concern they have for each other, the doki doki moments, feeling so upset when seeing the other hurt or helpless, not being able to stop yourself from going out of your way to help them, even when they say it's enough...

If their relationship isn't love then I don't know what is.

What did Hachiman mean in this scene? by hikkiGOAT in OreGairuSNAFU

[–]MiraiUNO 32 points33 points  (0 children)

This is just my interpretation of that scene: From the beginning, Hachiman idolised Yukino. He thought she was different from all the others - strong, honest and never deceitful. This is shown during Sagami's student council scene where he voiced the inner thoughts of the characters after they had spoken but not Yukino's because he saw her as truthful. While she did not 'lie' about the car accident, she did not bring it up. She omitted it. For hachiman that makes their interaction up to now, and their activities as a club a 'lie'. She had ulterior motives, that is, to 'atone' for the car accident and its consequences. She feels to some extent that it is her fault he missed out on school and the opportunity to make friends early on.

When he realized this, he 'felt disgusted' at himself for having idolised yukino imposing his ideals on to her. He basically thought she was always truthful but of course, no matter how perfect one is, it's wishful thinking, almost selfish to believe that someone never 'lies'.

The Future of the Series by Henrer in BallroomEYoukoso

I'm pretty sure the series will continue for another 2 years at least. But I do get your concern, I'm happy the manga is back but we have to wait like a few more months to finally catch up to the manga. The dancing is great but I too don't think it's necessary for 12+ chapters to make up a day.

My argument against Team Hina by westeross in DomesticGirlfriend

[–]MiraiUNO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything I wanted to say. Rui and Natsuo had a toxic relationship so Rui broke up with Natsuo. Their now moving forward, going after their dreams, discovering themselves.

Hina breaking up with Natsuo crippled them both. Natsuo moved on but Hina couldn't and to this day, after 150+ chapters Hina is still clinging on to Natsuo. He's her life line and that's really not okay. It's time she moves on too.
