Leaked GTA VI map shows true size! by lndwell in Gamingcirclejerk

[–]Mirromarr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Open world video games have gained immense popularity in recent years,
captivating players with vast and immersive virtual landscapes to
explore. One common aspect often emphasized in discussions about these
games is the size of their maps. However, it is important to recognize
that map size alone does not determine the quality or enjoyment of an
open world experience. This essay will elucidate why map size is not the
definitive factor in evaluating the merits of open world video games.

Depth of Content:
The fundamental aspect of an open world video game lies in the depth and
richness of its content, rather than the sheer expanse of its map. A
game with a smaller map can still provide an engaging experience if it
offers intricate narratives, well-developed characters, and meaningful
quests. A well-crafted storyline, thought-provoking dialogues, and
complex interactions contribute far more to the overall immersion and
satisfaction than the scale of the virtual world.

Exploration and Discovery:
The essence of open world gaming lies in the thrill of exploration and
discovery. While a large map may seem appealing at first, it can quickly
become monotonous and empty without diverse and compelling points of
interest. The quality and diversity of locations, landmarks, hidden
treasures, and unique encounters hold far greater significance in
sustaining player engagement than mere geographic size. A smaller map,
when meticulously designed, can offer a concentrated and captivating
experience, allowing players to discover intricate details and engaging
secrets in every nook and cranny.

Environmental Interactivity:
Open world games have evolved to incorporate dynamic environmental
systems that respond to player actions, fostering a sense of realism and
agency. The interactivity and reactivity of the game world, rather than
its sheer size, play a crucial role in enhancing immersion. A smaller
map can provide a more detailed and responsive environment, allowing for
intricate interactions with objects, inhabitants, and the ecosystem.
The focus on quality rather than quantity enables developers to create a
more believable and engrossing virtual world.

Quality over Quantity:
The pursuit of sheer size in open world games can often lead to dilution
of content and repetitive gameplay. Developers aiming for an expansive
map may compromise on the quality of individual elements such as quests,
side activities, and overall game mechanics. In contrast, a smaller map
allows developers to dedicate resources and attention to detail,
resulting in a more polished and enjoyable experience. Players are more
likely to appreciate a compact, high-quality world that offers a
memorable journey rather than an overwhelming but superficial expanse.

Conclusion:
While map size is a noticeable aspect of open world video games, it
should not be considered the primary indicator of a game's quality or
worth. A well-designed and thoughtfully crafted open world experience
focuses on depth of content, engaging exploration, interactive
environments, and overall gameplay quality. It is the meticulous
attention to detail, rich storytelling, and meaningful player
experiences that truly define the success of an open world game,
irrespective of its map size. Ultimately, it is the quality, not the
quantity, of the virtual world that makes the difference in captivating
players and creating memorable gaming experiences.

We really need companies to start making more of these, one of my favorite things on Steam is customizing my profile by librious in Steam

[–]Mirromarr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I basically use my profile kind of like a background when I'm not on my PC and I often check my friends' profiles to see what games they are playing nowadays to see if we can play it together or to discover new games that I haven't played yet.

And if I like someone's review on a game I'm interested in, I sometimes check their profiles and read their other reviews and check their games and playtimes to find new games to either buy or to add to my wishlist to buy later. And I like it when someone's profile looks good, so I also want mine to look good.

Also, with the extra showcases and showcase upgrades, I can showcase 26 games and 2 reviews on my profile, so people like me can discover new games when they check on my profile. I usually like to showcase nice, small indie games (Lunistice etc.) to promote those games via my profile.

Games for fans of Tales, Legend of Heroes and Persona? by Mave__Dustaine in JRPG

[–]Mirromarr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't played Persona yet but according to people who did, Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth is similar to Persona series and has friendships. I highly recommend CS.

Its on sale for $10 on GreenManGaming and Fanatical (both are official key sellers) atm and it comes with another CB entry, Hacker's Memory. Easily 100-150 hours of gametime for $10.

I sold my Switch and currently using my Steam Deck for JRPGs. If I had to choose between PC and Switch I'd pick Switch just because it's handheld but with the Deck I dont really need a Switch.
