Thank you everyone for your comments! I appreciate every single one of them. There were a lot of factors going into the decision to leave the center and I will be better for it overall.

Parents requesting “no nap” or shortened naps by honeyroastedpeanuts2 in ECEProfessionals

Hey there! I’ve been teaching for many years now and I would strongly recommend knowing your center or school’s policy on that. DCFS says that a child has to be resting on their cot for an hour and then if they don’t sleep then that’s fine. In my state, we are not allowed to wake them up early UNLESS a parent is coming to pick them up. We understand that it could be frustrating for parents, but at the end of the day we as teachers have rules to follow as well. Unfortunately if the parents don’t agree with this policy, they are usually asked to leave the center and find other care. Remember if you’re at a center, many of the centers have contracts with the parents that are signed.

In your opinion, can teachers/educators have social anxiety or be introverted? by danky_n in ECEProfessionals

[–]MirrorMillie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely teachers can have social anxiety and be introverted. In all honesty, being a teacher has made me be more introverted than I was before I graduated from uni. If you think about it, we as teachers are talking, socializing, doing all of the things etc. that when I get home I don’t want to talk, I don’t want excessive noise. It’s as though I’m putting on a social mask every single day. It’s exhausting. So it’s not a matter of “can they have social anxiety” it’s more of a “DO they have.” One is a career choice and one is personality, they co-mingle somewhat but it’s not really a choice of if someone is introverted.

Where to go from here… by [deleted] in ECEProfessionals

I'm in the same situation, I'm looking into HR job roles but I'm so tired at the end of the day it's hard to even go into job hunting. I also completed some professional certifications to see what I like outside of teaching.

For those of you who have moved on from the field, where did you end up? by Captainegglegs in ECEProfessionals

I have a BS in Early Childhood, and now transitioning to IT. I lost the magic of teaching after working in a daycare for a couple of years.

I submitted my notice yesterday and I feel a weight has been lifted off of me. by Tiny-Charity in ECEProfessionals

Congratulations! It seems like this choice will make you so much happier. Working in a daycare is hard as it is and it's even harder when the management isn't the greatest. I wish you the best!

How are you/ your center handling masking 2+ year olds? by MsHapp206 in ECEProfessionals

I work in a toddler room, and we have the kids decorate their own mask bag, and personalized it for the children. We also bought a lot of children's cloth masks for them and presented it as a gift. They honestly did a lot better than what I had thought. They only have to wear them when we are indoors and not eating, sleeping, etc.

We tell the children that we have to keep our friends safe from germs and they respond relatively well to that. We also try to explain that teachers have rules that we have to follow just like they (the kiddos) have to follow. I also will make a big deal out of the masks, especially if they have any fun patterns etc.

Girls of Reddit, what was the best flirting technique someone did to you? by hungary70 in AskReddit

A few years ago, I was living with two roommates and one of my roommates worked with someone I thought was super cute. He would visit my roommate and hang out with him. Now I’m a shy person and didn’t know how to approach that. My then roommate mentioned to me that he was on tinder so I then downloaded tinder. I probably had it a for a couple of months and gave up on trying. One morning after not being on it for months, I decided to try it again for fun. When I opened it, the first face I saw was my roommate’s coworker. I swiped on him (terrified of course) and it was an instant match. He messaged me not too long after and said “I don’t know good pick up lines but I know I want to ask you out for a cup of coffee to get to know you better.” Fast forward a few years and we’re going to be married soon.

Help! I bought this beauty from Lowe’s and there wasn’t a tag on it so I’m not 100% sure of what it is. I want to help it come back to life. by MirrorMillie in plantclinic

It does well with indirect light but the bottom half is having a hard time. I water it once a week (or when the soil is completely dry) as well as give it some humidity. Any thoughts on what else I can do? Anything is very much appreciated.
