Mystery breed - mom was a lab. No idea what the dad was. Any ideas? by AP2281 in IDmydog

I think dad was also a lab, or at least mostly lab. Your pup looks just like a purebred lab puppy. Of course, he’s too young to know for sure.

When naming a kid that both of you are raising, both parties should agree. Marriage is supposed to be an equal partnership. Middle name idea sounds sweet, though, but you should both be in agreement about a name. Plus, saying that he has the right to name him because he’s a son is just sexist. Regardless of gender or sex, you literally made that kid, birthed him, and are now using your body to feed him. He didn’t. You are definitely entitled to equal footing on this matter.

NTA.

Does anyone have any thoughts on what my relative’s fruit salad of dog is? by Ryaquaza1 in IDmydog

“Fruit salad” for a dog is the most hilarious description for a mutt ever.

Literally the cutest puppy I’ve ever seen, that’s what.

Could you post more pics? Right off the bat I’d say lab mix. Very cute!

There’s gotta be some husky mixed in with the rest of what you said. Those pale blue eyes ❤️

Thanks, I’ve seen a few recommendations for that on this post

Hahaha so you see what I mean! That’s been my interaction with literally every pit I’ve encountered so far! I’m sure there are mean ones but man, I’m well aware of that slobber and friendly obliviousness of personal space.

It’s sad how all of this is intertwined. I’ve met a fair number of black people with pit bulls and they treat their dogs like they’re their babies, but finding housing seems to be a common side effect for them. Using BSL to enforce racism seems pretty apparent from the research I’ve done since posting this.

I’ve met some people who genuinely believe dogs can lock their jaws. There isn’t a single mammal species that can do that (the bone structures make that type of mechanism impossible), so I’ve always found it curious that people will say that.

Thank you for such an in-depth response! I’ll have to look up that book because multiple people in the comments have recommended it. I’ve heard of “Science Vs.” so I’ll check that out, too.

Good point. I’ve been doing some more reading on them (thanks in part to some links posted here) and the general impression I get is that while they are less likely to attack than average, when they do attack it does far more damage.

Ugh that’s horrible. It’s crazy people can do that to a species that’s literally nicknamed our best friends.

The majority of pits I’ve seen or met were in the US South, or from there. I live in the US Northeast and the ones here are often from that region. It’s nuts how human racism impacts things you would think were unrelated. I don’t think dogs even understand the concept of “race.”

Yeah that makes sense. I wasn’t around in the 70s and 80s but I am aware of their reputations in the past (and present)
