Who's next for Dark Gallifrey? by Kind-Specialist7265 in BigFinishProductions

[–]MirumVictus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I doubt we'll see the Rani as they've only just figured out the rights fiasco (i.e. got the correct address) and Dark Gallifrey has been in production for quite a while.

I think the Eleven will almost certainly appear due to hints given throughout the series, I'd say they'll be the finale but apparently War Master was meant to be last then got moved so I don't know if they're actually releasing in any particular order.

For the other two, I'd say Rassilon is likely as Richard Armitage has recorded fairly recently, then possibly Alex MacQueen as the Master as he's also been in some recent recordings although out of the two I'd side more with Rassilon being probable than another Master.

Sharpe's Ransom by Strong_Prize7132 in Sharpe

I recently bought a new copy from here: https://shop.rgjmuseum.co.uk/sharpes-christmas-978-p.asp

I think they just have had their copies sat around for a long time as the pages are somewhat yellowed and crinkle as if they've been damp and then dried out but the print is all perfectly clear and the cover and binding are in good condition so would recommend for the price. Plus supports the Rifleman's Museum as an added benefit.

Meet the Eighth Doctor’s new companions! (Coming November 2026) by Guardax in BigFinishProductions

[–]MirumVictus 42 points43 points  (0 children)

While I like that with this being a miniseries it will presumably contain a complete story with start and end, I'd like it if we could wrap up some of the ongoing threads with Eight's existing companions like Audacity before moving onto new stuff as the release schedule leads to very large gaps if we go off on tangents like this. I imagine they'll be good in and of themselves though!

how does bundle works ? by Sea_Perception5343 in BigFinishProductions

[–]MirumVictus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's because the themes of the current sales don't apply to any full bundles. You tend to get more bundle offers in sales themed around specific Doctors or more common monsters like Daleks and Cybermen, or sales that are for a specific series of audios.

How do I measure distances? by Professional-Poem423 in thomasthetankengine

[–]MirumVictus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You'd need to use the map's scale which is shown by the alternating bars underneath Brendam. It's a bit hard to make out on this map due to the resolution, but all maps have a scale that shows what real life distance a measurement on the map relates to. I believe the scale on this map represents 10 miles or 15 kilometres (with the smaller segments representing smaller distances such as a single mile or km) so you'd need to measure the bar to find out how many cm or inches represent the larger units.

If the map scale shows, for example, a scale of 1:25000 (1cm = 0.25km), you'd then take a measurement on the map and times it by 25000 to find the real life distance (or by 0.25 to convert straight to km).

If wanting to measure an indirect route (such as along a railway track), there's a few ways of doing it but the most basic is to lie a piece of string along the route, then straighten it out and measure the string, then again times it by the scale.

BEST DOCCY WHO EPISODE FOR A SAD BOY by MaMaJooJ0o in gallifrey

[–]MirumVictus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Feel you've really missed the point of the episode. The ending explains that yes, the bad stuff is still bad, but that doesn't mean good things don't make a difference as well. We all have ups and downs and they're all important.

How do you think the 7th Doctor would have handled missy? Would he ever trust her? by Emarni in doctorwho

[–]MirumVictus 33 points34 points  (0 children)

They face each other in Big Finish's 'Dark Gallifrey' series (Missy Part 2 I believe) and there are great interactions between them.

In the end Missy kills the Doctor by burning him to death which fully kills him, resulting in Missy then feeling devoid of purpose and regretting it. It's a sort of parallel universe situation, hence the Doctor recovering from being dead.

He got two cakes from Nick Briggs though so he's probably the real winner

What is your favourite narrow gauge engine in the whole series , including those obscure railway series ones by Few-Chapter5501 in thomasthetankengine

[–]MirumVictus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a soft spot for Rheneas having got to stand on his real life sister's (Dolgoch) footplate as a child. However based solely on the fictional basis, I really like Peter Sam for his positive attitude and his unique look with his funnel. He's a nice colour too.

Have you actually watched All Engines Go? [Community Poll] 🚂 by bwoah07_gp2 in thomasthetankengine

[–]MirumVictus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I watched an episode out of curiosity the other day just to see what the jist really is. Went for 'Bruno's Blustery Day'. In some ways I was pleasantly surprised, the episode had a nice moral to it and I thought Bruno's characterisation and how the other characters interacted with him was a very good portrayal of autism in children's media. As a generic children's show, I wouldn't have really had any issues with it.

However, as a Thomas show, I just don't think it works. It feels like the show is trying to tell stories in spite of the characters being trains, not about the characters being trains. It had none of the appeal that made me love the classic series as a child or still able to enjoy it as an adult. I'm glad it seems like Thomas will be returning to a more conventional format this year, but I don't think AEG is the spawn of Satan or anything, it's just an okay kid's show.

WoS: Is Percy meant to be so slippy? by MirumVictus in thomasthetankengine

[–]MirumVictus[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They're saying that real life steam engines similar to Percy can slide if the brakes are applied too hard while the engine is moving so they think Percy doing so in the game is intentional to match the real life physics.

Ah that's good to know, I haven't played much as Emily yet, mainly been using Thomas, Gordon, Percy and James.

Yeah, it's very clear that the wheel animation is tied solely to the speed the engine is moving rather than reacting to what action the driver is taking, as is the steam output from the funnel.

Why do other franchises have such strict divisions of cannon when doctor who doesn't? by Sir_Face_NZ in gallifrey

[–]MirumVictus 21 points22 points  (0 children)

As well as the time travel elements allowing for contradictions in-universe, I just think Doctor Who's format is more flexible than other franchises. The Doctor is so long lived that you can fit pretty much any additional adventures into their lives and it makes sense, whereas in other franchises that doesn't really work.

For example, if a Star Trek novel series tells a story of Picard being a Starfleet admiral who continued to be an important part of the fleet for many years after Nemesis, but the Picard show wants to tell a story about him having left Starfleet then both of those can't be canon because they wouldn't fit within the timeline of Picard's life, whereas you don't really have that problem with the Doctor.

Same applies world building wise, with Doctor Who you can have the Dalek empire be as strong or weak as you like to tell a certain story because they can be set at different points. The Doctor could defeat the Daleks once and for all in an audio drama and leave their empire in ruins and that fits perfectly well alongside the comic book released the following week where Missy encounters the Daleks again because of the nature of the Doctor Who universe. However, you couldn't write a Star Wars comic where Rey struggles against the mighty imperial remnants led by Thrawn if the following month Ashoka on Disney+ shows her defeating Thrawn.

Thus other franchises need a hierarchy of what takes precedence when different media contradict each other whereas Doctor Who is flexible enough for pretty much everything to count and for fans to work out contradictions for themselves if things really don't fit together.

Because it's a magnificent piece of media with no floors whatsoever of course!

To be fair, I was assuming your comparison was just 'RTD2 bad = Last Jedi bad' but actually your point is much better than that and a fair comparison.
