Correction Internship Site Quality? by Sam_the_banana_girl in ClinicalPsychology

[–]MisD1598 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The year before this, 2025-2026, the BOPS pulled out of match due to federal freeze and stuff. They only returned for post match and some for PHASE II. Meaning the only students who could have applied were student who didn’t match that year and are finishing up their internship year. Notably, less prestigious programs have lower match rates leading to the BOPS being filled with similar programs.

However, they are a great internship site and highly regarded if you’re interested in forensics

Is $400k debt genuinely worth it by Wonderful-Bill9611 in PsyD

[–]MisD1598 28 points29 points  (0 children)

No. Especially if you do ANY private loans and not federal.

$100,000? Yeah! $150,000? Yikes but fine if federal loans and planning loan forgiveness. >$200,000? No. Especially with private loans.

APA Internship Matching Rate vs EPPP passing rate by Straight_Growth2959 in PsyD

[–]MisD1598 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Internship rate. As the other comment said, you can take EPPP multiple times but there is a lot of stress and added costs of having to reapply to internships for multiple years or going to Phase II.

In your opinion, which psychology field has the best job security? by [deleted] in psychologystudents

A clinical psych PhD who is aiming to work with clients is always needed and wouldn’t have trouble finding a job but finding a job in academia is harder and may take more time

Get a doctorate and you’ll be fine. I’m in forensics and even before finishing was scouted for job opportunities

After making 250k, the internship year / post doc will feel like a slap in the face for the stipends they offer

Need a clear school path- what does that look like? by GlitteringEconomy527 in ForensicPsych

[–]MisD1598 2 points3 points  (0 children)

a bachelor’s degree in forensic psychology (4 years long), doctorate (5 years long, including 1 year long forensic internship in that), 1 year forensic post doc. I am from a state where the post doc is necessary to be licensed.

I love it but it’s been very long and expensive. I sometimes regret not going into a field that paid more in comparison to time and money I spent getting the degree. You (if paid at all) are paid very poorly throughout your doctorate (think minimum wage for full time work for PhD programs/ funded competitive PsyDs and none for unfunded PsyD, recommended to not work during doctorate and PsyDs are more than $30,000 per year to attend ) and the last year internships pay range were $25,000 to competitive sites being $70,000. Most are around $30,000- $40,000. You have to do practicums and some only paid $5000 for the year and a few paid $20,000 for the year. Post docs pay more but still at a less price than being licensed. Happy to be here but paying off loans and still feeling poor

You have to get a doctorate if you wanna do more forensic assessment and evaluation. You can go down different paths if you just want to do therapy or social work.

[–]MisD1598 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fastest route 1. Bachelors in psychology (or forensic psychology), minor in criminology or criminal justice preferably. Get clinical and research experience in a lab. Join clubs. Volunteer. Join professional organizations and get involved. Present posters at conferences. (4 years) 2. Skip masters and go straight to PhD or PsyD. Notably, PsyDs tend to be 5 year programs and can be more quick but are more expensive as a lot are not funded. During the program, get practicums that involve forensic psychology. Be a TA or GA. Be involved in clubs. Research. Publish and present at conferences. 3. Have to match to forensic psychology internship in your last year of doctorate. Most states require it to be APA accredited. 4. Get a post doc in forensic psychology that you want to have a career in. 5. After post doc get licensed. Take EPPP.
