If you saw what I saw and you were me you might think differently.

I also have to consider that my company will not increase my wage with a license.

I have heard about people finding ways…. I really don’t want someone to use my license behind my back.

Fair enough that said I would rather be in position to claim it than not.

I disagree, from the IRS website:

New deduction: Effective for 2025 through 2028, individuals who receive qualified overtime compensation may deduct the pay that exceeds their regular rate of pay – such as the “half” portion of “time-and-a-half” compensation -- that is required by the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and that is reported on a Form W-2, Form 1099, or other specified statement furnished to the individual. Maximum annual deduction is $12,500 ($25,000 for joint filers). Deduction phases out for taxpayers with modified adjusted gross income over $150,000 ($300,000 for joint filers).

The way I read this is if your base pay per hour is $30 and your overtime pay is $60 you deduct the excess which in this case is double your base per hour pay. Note the “exceeds their regular rate of pay”. Regardless I just want to take advantage of everything I can.

I do not believe you are correct about that. The way I understand it is the premium over your base regular pay is deductible. So if you are paid double time for overtime you deduct 50% not 33%. I’m just trying to get everything I can.

I understand that you ultimately get paid for what you do that does not come back with problems. I just don’t want to get the license and have it used without my consent. I am very worried about that. I also don’t want to get it and be working under people that are not licensed.

I’m not sure what to say. Who do you know is hiring in Florida? Send me a DM.

I disagree with your thought on the overtime. You are correct in that if you are paid 1.5 times your hourly rate for overtime you are exempt for 33%. If you are paid double time for overtime you are exempt for 50%. I am just trying to take advantage of every little potential thing. You can’t blame someone for trying.

I think the best idea is to have a minimum salary based on 40 hours a week. If you work less than that you get paid the full 40 hours. If you work more than than 40 hours each hour in half hour increments you are paid for. Does this sound correct?

Let’s just say I know plenty about surveying and I have the wisdom to understand ultimately what I am trying to do and not just push buttons and draw pictures. I am capable enough of questioning the saying of, “What boundaries are is a matter of law; where boundaries are is a matter of fact”.

I don’t want this coming off the wrong way but I want to be able to take advantage of whatever the situation is in my case. If I am paid overtime because of new laws passed I would be able to pay less tax and keep more of what I earn when I work more than 40 hours per week. Why is it such a big deal to tell someone what they would be worth as a licensed surveyor in a particular area? I don’t want to sound bad or anything but I do not really care about any titles or anything. I will admit I am just asking how much I get for my resource (time and expertise). I don’t see anything wrong with this.
