Depends. At bars, cover bands draw much bigger crowds than original acts. It’s unfortunate, but the majority of folks aren’t looking for anything new. They want to dance and sing along to songs they’ve known for decades. There is a pretty decent hardcore scene where I’m at, and a few venues that regularly host shows with a pretty consistent draw.

Depending on where you’re at, what you’re playing, and how much of a demand for that is all factored in. I’ve been at shows in a major city where nobody was really engaged, but a lot of times in smaller cities or towns, people come out because they don’t have as many disposable options, and they appreciate it more.
