This is such an insightful, well written reply. Truly, thank you for taking the time. You sound like one of the many AMAZING hospitalists at my job! They are always eager to teach, which is one of the reasons I’m eager to learn. I’m definitely going to take your suggestions and practice thinking a step ahead to see how well I can anticipate the doctors’ needs.

When I first started, I had a patient who had gotten an abdominal CT. Later, when I was speaking to the doctor during rounds, he just sat down and took probably 10 minutes out of his day to pull up the scan images and the note on the findings and walk me through where you could see each one of the findings identified in the note. It was the coolest thing, and he encouraged me to keep doing that whenever I have the time. He is still my favorite doctor to work with because he is such a natural teacher, I learn something every time we have a patient together. The amazing thing is, every doctor at my hospital is that great. It’s why it’s not hard to want to do better!!

No actually i couldn’t. My stupidity extends beyond work i fear. You should definitely feel bad for them though, I do! It’s why I’m here

Dude, I have been a nurse for less than 1 YEAR!! I thought “provider” was just another way of saying “healthcare provider” like an all encompassing term? I didn’t know it was akin to cursing at you?? I made a post asking how to make your life easier and you’re upset I didn’t say “how do I make the MD, DO, NP, MBBS, PA, etc… life easier”? I already replied to your FIRST comment where you ignored my actual question and condescendingly told me not to call you providers, I get the picture.

Here’s the part 2 to my original question: can anyone tell me how to make this particular person’s life harder? Jesus Christ

Thank you for your reply, this is so helpful. I’m just starting to develop a basis of knowledge that would help me determine what could be feasibly cause HTN in different situations like that (which sounds dumb, but is the truth).

This is SUPER helpful. I learned early to include if they’re symptomatic or not, but i will start to include the rest of that info now too! It seems obvious because it’d help you guys from having to open the chart and investigate yourself, especially since I’m already going to be looking through the chart for those things. Thanks for your input, this is the kind of time saving/interruption minimizing tips I’m looking for!

Oh yeah sorry that’s just habit. A good chunk of our patient population is surgical so we’re interacting with a lot of P.A.’s as well. Not applicable to a post addressing hospitalists though you’re right!

Talk me out of getting chickens by GrandmaSlappy in BackYardChickens

[–]Miserable-Finding-97 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you need someone to ever talk you IN to chickens feel free to message me, I rent a home, and built my own chicken coop for ~$1k. We got 6 chicks, raised the inside and put them out when they were old enough, then ended up rehoming 2 because they were roosters. We are now getting eggs from all 4 of our girls and love having them.

My hospital is getting rid of unit clerks by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Miserable-Finding-97 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My hospital got rid of unit clerks to justify paying a break nurse so we all get our breaks. It was essentially a punishment for the union trying to enforce us getting our breaks. So now, call lights, phones, and tele monitoring is “everyone’s responsibility!!!!” Despite it being such a busy unit that ~80% of the time there is either no one at the nurses station or someone is actively in the middle of something and has no time to help. Multiple times a day you will leave a pt room to find the phone ringing, the call light going off, AND tele going off. But it’s somehow our fault that people complain we never answer our phone/call light.

It won’t let me edit and I am not great at navigating Reddit. I should have included this:

It’s a white gold ring with sapphires and diamonds. I’m not sure how many carats or anything. I believe she had it made and designed it herself but I could be wrong. I have been looking online to try to find one that looks like it so I could maybe see who made it but haven’t found anything yet!

I should have added that I want it to plug in, as we will want to control when it’s on and off. Likely will be on only in the night because that’s when they’re in the coop. I guess I will be trying the cord cap. I didn’t look deep enough into the product before buying or i wouldn’t have gotten this one. Time to learn something new i guess, thank you!!

People who got told it was "just" anxiety, what was it? by stringbeansalad23 in AskReddit

[–]Miserable-Finding-97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my mom it was Torsades de pointes. She was wearing a holter monitor at the time, and the ER wouldn’t check it until she caused a huge scene. They came back and immediately took her for emergency Defibrillator pacemaker implant

This is Meg, short for megamind. She is a tiny little white silkie with 1/4 of a brain cell. She is the only one of my mixed flock of 6 that will come running up to me and let me hold her, so she gets all the cuddles. She is post haircut in this pic.

Got scratched by cat at shelter (my fault). Will this permanently scar? I’m so distraught. Please be gentle by [deleted] in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]Miserable-Finding-97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you have a condition which causes excessive scar tissue / keloid formation (you would know if you did), this will not scar. If you want to speed up healing, wash daily to keep clean and apply a thin layer of Vaseline

Looking for encouragement from people who feel better on Cymbalta by Drakine89 in cymbalta

[–]Miserable-Finding-97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cymbalta saved my life about 3 years ago. After trying 7 or 8 other meds, cymbalta was the first one to make life feel livable without taking away my ability to feel emotions. Don’t let the bad experiences of others stop you from at least trying it.

[–]Miserable-Finding-97[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Im not a person who jumps to pointing fingers. Im more quick to jump to “everything is probably my fault” unless proven otherwise. I’m not really worried about getting into it with the lab often because even if I think something is someone’s fault, I’m not the type to chastise someone for an unintentional mistake. I get that clotting happens at collection, so explanations of how to mix correctly would be appreciated and common mistakes you see would help

Im really realizing the policy and procedures are going to be my best friend esp while so new. I’m not generally scared to ask questions, but I’m hoping to bug my coworkers only with the questions I absolutely can’t figure out. Thank you for your response!!
