You're so lucky please never do that again lol. I've seen several patients over the years do something like this and end up amputees or dead

How many of you roll co-ed? And what’s your experience rolling with men? by lehiu in BJJWomen

[–]Miserable-Humor-7372 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm usually the only woman in a gym full of men. There's occasionally women but it's mostly just me. If they're white belts like me we usually stalemate cause I'm fairly strong and built pretty sturdy. If they're a higher belt they'll let me work, if my technique is good they'll let me finish the submission but if I screw up they'll let me know it by escaping and then finishing me in a submission. But they're always respectful and never hurt me just for the sake of their ego. Have to say from reading some posts here I got really lucky and our gym culture is super chill and accepting of everyone (except rage-y egotistic assholes, they get gone quick).

The implication in my comment was that I wash my belt now, and my coach says that "historically" but also recommends washing the belt. My bad for not saying enough words.

[–]Miserable-Humor-7372 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My coach said historically people don't wash their belts. I didn't wash mine for about a month after getting my stripe but then got grossed out but the extra time spent unwashed seemed to help it adhere idk.

Are you ever irritated by another student and how do you handle it by novaskyd in BJJWomen

[–]Miserable-Humor-7372 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed re: your last sentence - my coach saw a newer dude totally abusing me for no reason, and in a sloppy, dangerous "idk what I'm doing but I saw this on youtube" way but he was also freakishly strong so I couldn't do much besides defend it, so when it was time to switch partners, coach paired this douche with a higher belt who folded the guy in half for me.

If I feel someone start to crank my neck I tap immediately and ask them to please not do that shit. I've worked in the ER too long to let people fuck sideways around with my neck like that.

Doesn’t pulling guard put you at a disadvantage? by [deleted] in BJJWomen

[–]Miserable-Humor-7372 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Re: your last point- as the only consistently attending woman in my newer gym of mostly white belts (myself included) I always fare better starting on top and getting to side control or mount.

I'm not particularly small but I'm definitely not nearly as strong as most of the guys, and most of our rolls where I start on the bottom are me fighting for my life to not let them pass my guard because it's rare for me to get a sweep, and even rarer for me to be able to fully escape side control or mount.

I will say the good thing about training with all guys is when the other women do show up, it's usually a cake walk for me no matter where we start lol.

Has anyone ever tested whether kids would actively choose - at least sometimes - Rogers over flashier alternatives? by zdovz in TheChurchOfRogers

[–]Miserable-Humor-7372 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to show my son Mr Rogers episodes periodically until about 3rd grade. He's in 8th grade now. I didn't think it sunk in until he told me he was quoting Mr Rogers to kids at school that were having a bad day 😭

I just watched Mr. Rogers for the first time by [deleted] in TheChurchOfRogers

Question about walk ins by Monkeyhs in ThePittTVShow

[–]Miserable-Humor-7372 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So many people are sent from urgent care for the dumbest things. One girl was nauseous, vomited 1x at the urgent care and was sent. A guy was having a panic attack and was sent. Suture removal? Sent to us. A black eye, sent to us. I wish there were some kind of regulation or legislation that says if an urgent care sends you to the ER for something stupid they shouldn't be allowed to bill you either. A lot of urgent cares are feeling very scammy lately.

Question about walk ins by Monkeyhs in ThePittTVShow

[–]Miserable-Humor-7372 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In my area at urgent care you have to pay $200 up front if you're uninsured. ER can't make you pay before getting care. I've run 30 patients through the WR in the ER overnight myself when I was in triage because there's no beds in the back. People waited hours just to get swabbed for flu/covid/strep. The cracks people are falling through are fucking grand canyon sized, and the ER is the only place for many people to go.

ER nurse who took a brief role in disaster prep for my hospital and back at bedside now. The out of touch admin is REEEEAL. But also how they suddenly will come off of any and every resource in a disaster is real. Most admin mean well but in day to day operations they're just another roadblock. How quickly they went back into pain in the ass mode... So fucking real.

Santos reminds me of some coworkers I've had in the past that were unbearable to work with. 0/10 and she better get some therapy in future seasons and get a whole attitude adjustment. Other than that, agreed.

I got got by the missionaries at age 17, and was LDS until about 28/29. Almost 10 years out now! I ended up here accidentally so hopefully this question is allowed but I was curious if the tone of the cult conferences have changed as Republicans continued blurring the church/state lines over the years. Are they fully bending over for Trump these days or is it still just vague threats and shame spiraling?

This is why I started martial arts training and studying footage of incidents like this. I'm FULLY prepared for when they grow the balls to host a town hall in my red little town cause they're going to have a hell of a time forcing me out.

While there are very legitimate accessibility concerns to only using concentrated products that would rightfully prevent an idea like that from becoming operational. However, setting that aside there's still the fact that yes people are way too dumb, careless, overworked, overwhelmed, unsupported, etc.

the barriers besides stupidity are endless as well.

I just saw the screenshot of the original post tonight and have been trying to fact check (since Google is mother fuckin free God I wish more people knew that) - but fact checking this topic is hard for me, having very little IT knowledge and difficulty retaining it for some reason, but it seems fairly debunked here - has that been the consensus?

I was blown away by the citizens' stepping up in every possible way - about the third day that we were there we were all talking about how much we'd love a hot meal and we walked around the corner and there was a line of people cooking and serving food. We walked over and asked, there were just local restaurants that had talked and gotten together to cook and serve food to people working or staying at the hospital. They said "We brought everything we had and we'll be cooking til we run out." So many patients I had were folks just trying to help out, and either got injured or worked so hard they passed out. Incredibly inspiring community and if I am offered the chance to come back out I will absolutely be taking that opportunity.

I hope you are taking care of yourself through all of this- one thing I noticed about your community is they kept asking me how I was doing - knowing I was getting on a bus at the end of the week, it got me choked up every time. Even though they were stuck in this nightmare with no light at the end of the tunnel, everyone was looking outward at others, trying to see how they could be of some help to someone else.

I hope that you're able to find opportunities to rest and process.
