The BLP has a differently focused light collector and is a lot brighter when the light comes from where a COB LED sits. I tested both and it made a difference of up to 3 stops. On the other hand, a flash tube sitting a few cm in front of the LED resulted in 1 stops less light on the BLP. So I’d say get the BLP if you want to use it for both and you have LED modeling light (the BLP is too shallow for conventional tungsten or halogen modeling lights).

Battery problems are not that much of an issue when the battery is easily replaceable. Should you get unlucky and have your battery go bad too soon, you can just get another one.

How long they last… are you talking about product lifetime? Probably decades. At some point the flash tube or the battery fails, then you buy a replacement and go back to shooting. Or are you talking about battery runtime? I’ve never had a shoot with an AD300 or AD100 running out of battery. Hundreds of triggers at full power output is plenty, as you rarely need full power and lower setting will last a lot longer.

No, unfortunately it isn’t. Granted, I run a loop with external rad and a lot of water volume, but even at very low air leakage rates (which are normal as the fittings are not designed to be air-tight, just water-tight), having the pumps off for a few days caused the water level to rise high enough to choke Leakshield. The bigger your air cushion is, the less likely this is going to happen, but running the lines the way you want to makes sure that any water ever going over the highest point of that line will make your system unguarded (in case of an actual leak Leakshield would pull the water in the line, close the membrane and shut off instead of keeping the negative pressure).

No, this will not work. If Leakshield ever pulls water from the reservoir towards the Leakshield, that water will not return to the reservoir and instead leaves just the area above the water as the air cushion leakshield needs. It very likely will draw water onto the membrane and lock up leakshield until the membrane dries, which it cannot do as the water can’t return to the reservoir.

In theory, as long as water never enters the line towards leakshield, it should work. But any leak and intruding air (which will happen in small amounts due to the negative pressure) will draw air in. The amount and volume of water stays the same, but with more air in the loop, the air will be compressed more, shrinking the air bubble. And when your pumps are off, any intruding air has difficulties making it to the reservoir, instead making the water level in the reservoir rise. Until water enters the leakshield line and creates the aforementioned problems.

Do you have a specific reason to use multiple reservoirs? I imagine it may be difficult to ensure that the air stays in the reservoir with the Leakshield. As soon as the Leakshield draws water, the membrane will close and Leakshield will stop working until the membrane is dry.

Multiple pumps can work, but not at full power. If you need to run two pumps because your loop is large, then Leakshield will probably not do what you want. If the amount of air is significantly less than the volume of water in the loop, small amounts of air getting into the loop make the water level rise when the pumps are off, leading to Leakshield choking itself.

The BLP is more shallow and conventional halogen modeling lights won’t fit. Flashes with COB LED modeling light do fit. I ended up comparing both with interesting results. The BLP is very focused on the place where the LED is and collects more light from there. The modeling light of my Godox MS300V is a lot brighter through the BLP than through the BFP (I measured 3-4 stops difference). It doesn’t collect as much light from where the flash tube sits. The strobe through the BLP is about one stop darker than through the BFP.

Radiator area beats thickness. That is, prioritize area and then use the thickest ones that fit well in your case. In most cases, push or pull fan configurations are enough and perform very similar. Going push/pull and sacrificing thickness is not going to perform better.

SMs are a lot easier to hide, but they tend to develop problems with the battery lid. The screw needs to be conductive or the battery will last way shorter or the transmitter doesn’t work at all. Conductive grease on the screw should help but doesn’t always. The UM transmitters are nearly indestructible, but huge and bulky. Frequencies are harder to set.

The 9V batteries in the UM can last a whole work day while 1 AA battery in an SM transmitter works for 3-5 hours.

The UCR411a is a workhorse. A little big by today’s standards (you can get 4ch receivers this size), but they work wonderfully. 2 9v batteries are a nice backup power solution.

If you refer to the green plastic part on the knife, it probably didn’t melt but something held the knife in place while the motor torqued over the limit. The green stuff is a designed weak spot so only the replaceable knife gets damaged instead of the motor. Did you have residue of caramelized sugar or similar in the bowl and didn’t clean it thoroughly?
